I always request a room that is not ground level at a hotel. I have all my hotel preferences defaulted for the highest room possible. I stayed at a hotel one time and heard a woman scream like hell at 4 am. I thought someone was murdered and it rattled she shite out of me. I later learned the story from her coworker at breakfast. The lady was on the first floor and someone had come in through the outside sliding door. The lock on the door was broken and the thief knew it. They came in and stole her laptop amongst other items and she woke up to a person standing over her. She screamed, the burglar ran out the door and ever since then I've committed to never sleeping on the ground floor of a hotel if possible.
