Obviously we can discuss any theories for Stormlight or the Cosmere here. All book spoilers will be present.

I saw one for Shallan and her Mother that blew my mind and I felt incredibly stupid that I never got it because there are so many clues.

Anyway, read at your own risk but:

Shallan’s mother is the Herald Chanarach. When Shallan “killed” her, Shallan started the Desolation. Taln never actually broke, and Chanarach being sent to Braize started it.

There’s a ton that goes into this theory and I won’t type it all out, but was I the only one that didn’t get this?

I didn’t get that either. I need to reread the series before the new book comes out.

I must admit, I liked the first couple books best, when it was more grounded and before it got quite so fantastical.

Book three was a little work until it got towards the end. I’m currently struggling through book four. Very little interest in the Shallan stuff at this point.

I did not like Rhythm of War when it came out. I was bored for most of it because of so much Shallan and Navani, Kaladin hitting rock bottom again, and so little Dalinar.

I am doing a full Cosmere re-read, and am rereading it now for the first time (I have read the others numerous times).

I like it WAY WAY more, and am picking up on so much more stuff.

I'm currently re-reading the first three books. I'm on Way of Kings, and I'd forgotten how much of a slog the Shallan chapters are.

I didn’t mind Shallan at first but got a little weary of her as she became a central character

My intro to the Cosmere was Stormlight. Then I went back and ready everything else. I enjoyed the first Mistborn trilogy immensely.

Mine was the original Mistborn. I like the 2nd Mistborn SO much more now as an adult.

I had hard time re-reading original Mistborn because it is very amateurishly written, as opposed to where Sanderson is now.

Anyway, there's some good Reddit threads regarding this Theory and others you guys should look up. I can't believe the thought never crossed my mind.

Also, and this might be a spoiler but....

It looks like Shallan might actually have a 2nd current spren and might have 4 abilities instead of 2. There's some evidence for it I never saw (this is not counting her original spren from when she killed her mother)

She’ll be overpowered in no time.

I have a hard time conceptualizing shadesmar. It doesn’t excite me in general, and I’m not interested in Adelin being on trial there.

I saw this theory on Reddit the other day and I definitely think it has some merit to it.

I'm about to start my third re-read of Stormlight to prep for the new book. I definitely liked RoW much more on the second go around.

Wasn't the desolation like 4500 years before The Way of Kings?

We are in a desolation right now, the True Desolation. That is the one I was referring to.

Shallan started the Desolation.

Sounds about right. It definitely tracks with how much she sucks.

The first time I read RoW, I thought it was average compared to the other SA books. On the second read, I enjoyed and appreciated it much more as well.
I have a better understanding of the ramifications of what Navani has discovered.

Also doing some "homework" on the Coppermind wiki helped with too.

I've heard similar stories from people that enjoyed RoW more than I did. I don't think I should have to do nerd homework to enjoy the book, but I can only hope that Book 5 is a bit more focused and gives a proper end to part 1.

I'm curious if Zahal (Vasher) will play in to this. In Warbreaker one of the powers that the amount of breath that he has is perfect pitch.

And New Odium just happened to take breaths away from Hoid to where he lost his perfect pitch.

Yeah that's all I got. I don't actively look for theories

I did see one where Adolin will be the 3rd Bondsmith and bond the Nightwatcher, and cure all of the dead eyes.

I also saw a spoiler on who Brandon intends to be the 5 viewpoint characters for Era 2, and they are pretty interesting.
