South Carolina has found its next leader for the baseball program, as the Gamecocks are expected to hire former Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall. The move comes after South Carolina's search to replace Paul Mainieri, who stepped away during the 2026 season.

Schnall arrives in Columbia after a successful run at Coastal Carolina, where he guided the Chanticleers to the College World Series Finals and established himself as one of the rising stars in college baseball. Prior to becoming a head coach, Schnall spent more than two decades on Coastal Carolina's staff and played a key role in the program's 2016 national championship team.

Now, Schnall takes over a South Carolina program eager to return to national prominence. With the transfer portal already active and roster rebuilding underway, the new Gamecocks skipper will immediately be tasked with restoring one of the SEC's proudest baseball traditions.

Coastal Carolina pitching coach Matt Williams is expected to follow Schnall to Columbia.

Wow. Between him and Staley, they're going to have the least likeable coaches. At least Beamer is likeable.
