The facilities and conditions of this summer's Rio Olympics were already shaky at best. But now that the games have come and gone, the whole place is falling apart. Sad...

Per SB Nation...
quote:

The reason things are broken everywhere is because Brazil did not have the money to spend billions of dollars on constructing things, leading to rushed, shoddily done buildings.

They spent billions on a velodrome and a canoe slalom course and an Olympic stadium and a field hockey stadium and expanding the airport. Meanwhile, they can’t afford to pay police and firefighters or get the poop out of the water.

Brazil’s economy has tanked in the last five years, to the point it couldn’t afford to pay its regular bills. Hosting the Olympics was like buying a yacht when Brazil couldn’t make its car payments.

I’m not worried about how everything in Brazil seems to be broken. But the Olympics will guarantee that things in Brazil stay broken for some time, and the country’s people will have to live with that long after I leave my uncomfortable hotel room.

That's why the olympics should be hosted at the same 4 cities rotated. It's so expensive to build these complexes only to be vacated later.

Brazil has a strong economy from about 1990 to 2011, and especially between 2004 and 2010. Many grouped it with India and China economically. But with the global slump in oil prices and the election of successive presidents from the Worker's Party, the economy began to tank in 2011. When he IOC awarded Brazil the Olympics in 2009, Brazil's GDP was growing at about 7.5%. Brazil got some bad press during the Olympics about a few things, but most people thought it went fairly well.

They latched onto an overblown and misreported "scandal" involving an American (Lochte), and suddenly news about how everything was crap went away.

I know it has something to do with the IOC, but how the frick does the olympics end up being hosted in a country that clearly lacks the infrastructure and stability to do so?

They pledged to build that infrastructure to support to the Olympics/World Cup. Champaign dreams with a beer budget

"the whole place is facing a part." Sad is correct Larry. But, it's you who is the sad one. This is getting ridiculous. Either you're stalking someone or writing some BS without taking 2 seconds to proofread. It's going on the front of a website that receives thousands of hits daily, and you still can't take it seriously enough to proofread. I guess my last pep talk didn't work, lol. I wish Chicken would tighten up on you and TD Staff Reporter. I feel like I'm dyslexic trying to read this crap.

"Sad is correct Larry." I think you mean, "Sad is correct, Larry." You probably should have taken 2 seconds to proofread, pot.

Hmmm... tin shack with no plumbing in favela or new apartment with sketchy plumbing in Olympic Village. I don't see how these places haven't already been over run and occupied.
