Wildfires in Colorado
Had been planning on going to Vail for Labor Day weekend, but am reconsidering due to the wildfires. Anybody have any first hand info on air quality/smoke in the Vail area?

re: Wildfires in Colorado
I am absolutely not going into the mountains right now. We have friends who were in Beaver Creek last week who said it was absolutely miserable and smelled like smoke constantly. However, temperatures are supposed to cool down early next week, so it’s possible it starts to get better by Labor Day.

If I were you though, I’d look into the PNW. Even if our wildfires up here stop (unlikely), we’ll still have a ton of smoke from California. PNW is pretty clear right now, in contrast.

The smoke may give you a mild headache.

It wouldn’t deter me.

I can’t even see the flatirons from where I am. I’ve had a headache every day for a freaking week. I wouldn’t go to the mountains until It’s under control.

Was in Breckenridge yesterday and it didn’t seem bad. There was a haze when you looked at the mountains but no coughing or anything.

Spent the week in steamboat before that and it was fine

Yep. On our nearby trail, we can usually see Evans, Pikes, Longs, and the Flatirons. Haven’t seen them for at least a couple weeks.

Flatirons are in Boulder, CO.

I would cancel a CO hiking trip mainly because a big reason to go are the gorgeous views. Smoke hasn't bothered me but you definitely cannot see far due to the haze.

Have a buddy who approached Leadville from the south today. Boy it was Smokey in the video. I think we may head a little more south to B Vista if things don’t clear up around Leadville in a couple weeks.

Going to Colorado Springs/Eleven Mile Reservoir area for Labor Day. Hopefully that area stays kinda clear. Just want to do some fishing and get away for a few days.

Will the fires be cleared but by the end of September? Not sure seasonally out there how late in the year they usually progress.

re: Wildfires in Colorado
News last night said we will have smoke through September. Fire season is kinda seasonal I guess but who knows when all these will be out. A few years ago we didn’t see any precipitation in Denver from June to Thanksgiving. They said some Mtn ranges are better than others but you can’t really tell which ones on which days and with the air being stagnant the smoke settles into the valleys and canyons.

It’s been brutal in Denver. I’m getting head aches almost daily and my throat burns some throughout the day.

Read an article the other day that we have the 5th worst air quality in the world in Denver right now.
