Going to playa del carmen in June and looking to stay in playacar. Hotel options are Iberostar Quetzel, Riu Yucatán, Riu Playacar, The Reef Playacar, Sandos Playacar, Allegro Playacar, and Riu Palace. Any of you chaps stayed at any one of these hotels that can off insight on the properties and the area in gereral and activities.

All the Riu's share that same area so not a huge difference except the one not on the beach.

If you can afford to splurge- the royal playa del Carmen is amazing

Literally just got off the plane last night from a week at Sandos Playacar Beach Resort. The beach and pool are great. Lots of kids. Food was better than average. Just avoid the junior suites as they are older and being remodeled. I'd suggest using the website royaleliteweeksrentals.com and getting an upgraded Hacineda and elite status for cheap from a member selling their timeshare weeks! That's the way to go and will use this from now on. This give some you an upgraded room and all the exclusive member benefits including private pools, beach access, and higher end booze.

Make sure you do a day trip across to Cozumel. Rent scooters to go around the island!! Be sure to negotiate the price though!!

I've been to Cozumel twice and not really looking to return. We are thinking of taking day trips to Isla Mujeras and Tulum.

We stayed at Secrets. Great time and nice resort. We had a nice room and chilled all week. I have no real complaints.

Hacienda junior suites are nice. We went with our 3 kids so we got a regular junior sweet. You'll have a good time. Also, I honestly thought the regular buffet was better than any of the restaurants but the taco/burrito joint was the bomb for lunch!
Enjoy!

Good I was a little worried cause I read bad reviews about them but these reviews were from 2010 and 2011.

We stayed at Iberostar. No complaints. The food was good and there were howler monkeys all over the place.
