Going to Portland at the end of August for a Wedding, and a few of us are looking to get an air bnb for that friday and saturday night. Never been before so not sure what are of town we should look out. Any advice would help!

Going the first week of August. Booked my flights yesterday so looking for some direction on what area of town to stay. Will not have a car and want to be in a lively area with a lot going on.

There are a couple of posters that live in portland that will have some good advice, but we usually stay around the East Burnside and NE Grand area. There is a lot of stuff around there and its an easy walk across the Burnside bridge to downtown. The prime area to stay for bars/ late night partying and walking would be between West Burnside and NW Everett (parallel streets)and between 2nd and 11th. We usually hang at places on SE Hawthorn, SE Morrison and NE Alberta streets.

We stayed at the tiny house hotel. It was, uh, interesting. I about broke my neck coming down the ladder in the middle of the night. Awesome part of town, though.

That's like a microcosm of Portland's east side.
Okay, several posters have found great deals on Hotwire using the Hot Deals. If you do that, I would recommend the Pioneer Square area because it's small and every hotel is within walking district of the Pearl District and all the fun stuff there.
You're probably best off staying within 5 or 6 blocks of Burnside and within 15 blocks of the river (25 blocks if you're on the west side). If you do that, you'll have a ton of stuff to do within walking distance.
There are lots of cool neighborhoods on the east side (Division, Mississippi Ave, Alberta, Hawethorne) but they require Uber. The good news is that Uber is great in Portland. You never have to wait more than a couple of minutes for a car.
I also recommend Cartopia for late night munchies. It's a cool experience and they have several fire pits if it gets chilly at 1 AM.

People in this thread with better info than me but I stayed out somewhere in an Airbnb that was real cheap. Nothing around there of interest to me, that I was aware of at least.
But I say that to note that we were two blocks from the metro station (or whatever they call it). Maybe the rock wood station? If you stay near the train, it is easy, cheap, clean, and convenient. You are probably better off in the middle of stuff but Portland seemed pretty easy to get around in without a lot of driving. Though the driving did suck when we went out to the Willamette Valley for a day trip.

For some reason that place reminds by of the BnB on the Parks & Recs camping episode.

Booked our place last night. It is an old church that was converted into a home. Great location and the owners seem great.

That is a great location. You may be close to the streetcar line, which can get you to a lot of other stuff.
Nice restaurants and food cart pods in the area around 30th and Division. Hawthorne st has a lot going on, too. Two of the best taprooms in the country are at 11th and Division, right by Pine State Biscuits.

Jax. We should be there for about 2.5 days. Do you keep a list of restaurants, breweries, must do items to go to or see for Portland? Also stuff around the airbnb I listed above. Thx.

I was there in June and stayed at The Benson, an over 100 year old historic hotel. Right in the middle of the city and within walking distance of everything in the downtown area (for better or worse!).
Brewpubs, bars, restaurants, Chinatown, beggars, needle repositories, etc.
