First time here. What am I supposed to do here? What’s worth going to and what to avoid?

I’m not posting on the travel board either because I’m trashy.

If you like Pigeon Forge you should check out Eagle Smelter or Crow Blacksmith.

Keep driving. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have nothing for me (except a place called the Trout House which was good).

If you like firearms go to Bud's gun shop. Go hike to Clingman's Dome too. You can do it with kids even.

If you have time book a rafting trip on the Upper Pigeon River

Finding something to do here shouldn't be too difficult.

Hike during the day then go to Gatlinburg and get drunk(mostly for free).

Sugarlands
Tasting Fee: In order to help maintain a family-friendly environment in our beautiful mountain community, the City of Gatlinburg has asked all distilleries to begin charging a fee of $5.00 per person to sample spirits. As a way of saying thank you to our guests, each individual participating in a tasting will receive a $5 voucher redeemable with any in-store purchase!

Ole Smoky
After you see, smell and hear about the process, treat yourself to $5 samplings of our homegrown shine!

Choose from samples of our Original Unaged Corn Whiskey, White Lightnin’, Moonshine Cherries, Blackberry, Our World famous "Apple Pie", Strawberry, Peach and Lemon drop. We also offer seasonal and special flavors that aren’t available in package stores. You’ll be able to buy plenty of moonshine and Ole Smoky merchandise to take home with you.

Doc Collier
Stop by and try Gatlinburg’s finest shine at stoplight #3 on the Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg. We are proud to offer our customers (with valid ID) the opportunity to sample any of Doc’s flavors including our one of a kind Moonshine Brandy!

I think Gatlinburg is more fun as you can walk from place to place. In pigeon forge the top two things are buying cheap mountain trinkets or doing a ride or show of some sort.
What to recommend depends on your likes.
I'll say to avoid the precious stone panning, and the one stop rides (Earthquake, Dinosaur, etc).

Dollywood is fun and not that expensive for a theme park.
If you have girls they will love the girl power underlying theme. Boys will like throwing axes and knives and shooting crossbows. Pretty cool coasters too.
For a little more thrill there is a nice zip line course right outside of town.

My big recommendation is to take a ride to the other side the mountain and go rafting. It's fun and tame enough for kids.
Or go tubing in Townsend.

People on this board crap on that region but there are tons of fun vacations out there.
We once stayed in a cabin on two acres near townsend and stayed in that area and it was a totally different feel than gatlinburg. You don't have to do the touristy things, but there are some fun tourist traps.

there are alot of corny tourist traps, but if ya have kids its all good fun. There are also alot of fun things to do in pigeon and gburg. I too enjoy townsend area, its laid back and relaxing. Tons of good food, especially breakfast places all around the area. And The park is beautiful just to ride.. and even better to get out and explore. There is something for everyone in the area, just have an open mind and enjoy.

You have to go to Dixie stampede. So many thoughts crossed my mind while there. Who are these people performing? How much do they make? I guess the idea of performing like they do every night just fascinates me. The food wasn’t terrible either.

It’s a touristy place and you should do all the touristy things.
