What should I start our demanding from Delta?

Flew DL188 Beijing to Detroit
Load up at 4:30 pm to find out they are working on APU. Air went out shortly after and we were forced to sit in an 85 degree plane for 7 hrs.
Crew ran out of hours so had to get special approvals and didn’t get out till 12:30 am. Ended up getting diverted to Seattle to get a new crew then moved on to Detroit.
Went from a 24 hr trip home to a 48 hr trip.
Last I heard they were offering $300 voucher or 7500 miles.
Also, I am $196 from medallion status. I am done traveling for the year but wanted to know if I should take one more trip for Silver. Is it really worth it?

Wait you sat in the plane on the tarmac for 7 hours? Or in the air flying with no ac for 7 hours? Both are brutal and i would definitely aim high $300-500. 7500 miles is like next to worthless.
As for the $196 less from Silver, i would personally find a way to get that done assuming you plan on flying DL a lot next year. Now if you only have a couple flights lined up I’d probably skip it.

We sat at the gate for 7 hrs. On the plane just feet away from being comfortable in the terminal. By the time it was sad and done we spent 22 hrs of a 24 hr period on that plane.
PEK wouldn’t let us deplane.

OUCH. I’d also like to know if that was on the tarmac for 7 hours, because that’s absurd.
I’m Beijing to EWR this week on United....sure hope it goes better than that.

Speck. I have only had problems with Delta out of PEK. I started using them because they had decent rates on comfort plus and to try and get in a mileage program.
Have flown them 3 time this year. This was the second time I have had a delay issue.

Good God that sucks. That flight is bad enough without an additional 7 hours.

I don’t think I could do an extra 7hrs on top of that already brutal flight. That’s ridiculous. This will be my 3rd time out of PEK this year as well, but always United. Just checked in and I’m already dreading that leg.
I would definitely give them hell and see what you can get for that.
ETA:
That wouldn’t cut it for 7 hrs on the tarmac before a long haul flight.

I'd write in to their online form for a complaint, that really is terrible. Delta should know the rules that they cant keep you on a plane for more than 3 hours (DOT rules), but my guess is this had something to deal with chinese immigration. It may take a month to hear back if you do it online, but i would expect 10,000 miles and a $400 voucher. Anything less is shitty for that situation.
As for getting silver, i think its worth it for the potential upgrades, free bag, and better treatment at the airport

That’s brutal i can only imagine how pissed off everyone was on board. Maybe mention that you switched to DL from AA or UA and are close to being silver for next year but are debating if it is worth flying this airline if they treat their passengers this way...

Say you'll file a complaint with the DOT and Delta will pay attention and give you more.
Even though the flight originated in China delta is a us carrier flying to the US and being stuck on the plane is more than twice as long as the max airlines can allow you to sit on a plane on the ground.

I would usually agree with this anyway, but I just got upgrade notifications for EconPlus on my international leg and First for my domestic leg. and I’m silver on United, but looks like I’ll make gold this year by about only 20PQDs.

Good grief. I hope there were no children on the flight. I would feel bad for them and their parents.

For whatever that guy got paid, I’d take a beating as well.
FTR, they seem to be doing a lot of arse kidding since that incident.

This flight, for whatever reason, always has a lot of families flying back who have just adopted special needs kids from China. Surprisingly, every one of those kids acted great.
Delta called me back today and offered me 27k miles. I asked for the dollar value which i already knew was .01 per mile. I refused and asked to talk to the next supervisor in line. They are supposed to call me next week. I purchase around 10 tickets a year on this route, and If the want that business, even though its small, they are going to have to come off some money.

What a nightmare.
Why don't you switch to Air China that will earn you miles on UA or maybe even China Eastern which will earn you miles/status on DL? IIRC they both have multiple US gateways direct to PEK and both much better than any legacy US carrier.
Btw, to answer your question, I would demand a lot more than $300 or 7,500 miles for this BS. I would ask for at least 35,000 miles or $800 - $1,000 if it it going to be Delta Credit. I would say exactly what they need to do to make this right by you. I would also indicate in that email that you are looking to book next year's business travel and you are not sure that you want to continue your relationship with Delta (which is true).
As far as silver goes, it allows you to pick preferred seats which could be exit row or bulkhead seats in wide-bodies. Since you travel internationally a few times, this might be worth it for you to get. But I would not expect any upgrades to Comfort+ or biz with silver especially when flying out of DL hubs

If you fly 10 trips to China why aren’t you not even silver with delta...?

From what I gather he flies Star sometimes and thats why he is SIlver on UA as well. I'd do it differently and stick with one though.
