I'm thinking about taking the wife up to the New England area in November.

I thought we would fly into Boston and rent a car and spend some time at some B&B or hotels in Vermont. We'd like to hike, check out some good breweries, and restaurants, and take in the great weather as much as possible.

Any suggestions on where to go? Stay? See?

Not trying to be a jerk, but there's a New England thread just a couple posts down with much of the info you are looking for.

I'd try to do it earlier than November, or it's going to feel closer to winter than fall in the mountains.

Vermont is beautiful, can't recommend it enough. Some of the best breweries in the country to boot.

Areas to visit include Burlington, Stowe, and Woodstock.

Breweries are countless, but the big ones are:

Lawson's
Hill Farmstead
Alchemist
Von Trapp

We are definitely planning on early November. Actually, I was thinking late October and trying to stay a night in Salem on Halloween. Then, heading to Vermont after.

We've done Boston plenty of times.

Better book that AirBnB sooner rather than later. Only time of year that it's busy in Salem.

I'm headed to the Stowe area next week on Thursday before a wedding on Saturday.

Any can't miss beer/food/hikes. Those that you listed are already on my radar.

Thanks!

I was in Stowe just a few weekends back. Love that area.

A must eat is Doc Ponds. Best beer list I've ever seen at a restaurant. And it's not even close.

Idle Hands was a cool place to sit outside and have lunch while enjoying the beers from their brewery.

Went to a new place for dinner called Picnic Social and the food was outstanding. Worth checking out one night.

Of course Alchemist is there. Curb your expectations though - the beer is as good as always, but I really didn't like their new facility. It's nice, there's just no character - it's very sterile. And while it's nice to spend less than 5 minutes in line for Heady and Focal, it kind of takes away from the exclusivity allure it once had.

If anyone in your group likes cider, check out Stowe Cider Co. I'm not big into cider, but they had some different ones that were pretty solid.

Fair warning: Uber and Lyft do not exist in Stowe, so keep that in mind whenever you're going out to breweries.

As far as hiking goes, I didn't have a chance to hike, but I know there are lots of great trails in the area.

It's New Hampshire but I can recommend this place LINK

Mount Washington is right there and makes for some fantastic hiking.

Lived in Vermont in the latter-half of high school (several years back) and my parents stuck around until 2015.

I think you're better staying in Burlington and driving to places like Stowe, Middlebury, etc.

Burlington is the quintessential college town. Lines Lake Champlain with terrific views of the Adirondacks. One of the best sunsets you will see. To the east is Mt. Mansfield and Camels Hump. If in Burlington, take a stroll up Church Street. Many college towns have that "pedestrian mall" and this is it. Hen of the Wood is my favorite restaurant, though I would recommend the Waterbury (formerly home to Alchemist) location. There are many bars that line Church Street. I can't pick one that I would take over another, but Ake's Place is where I would go when coming home from college. Walk around the University of Vermont's campus. It's pretty terrific. If November, see if you can catch a Catamounts basketball game. Pretty good mid-major program.

ETA: Although fall is technically in November, it won't look like it, especially in the mountains.

My wife and I flew into Boston and rented a car and drove north. We spent a night at the bearskin neck motor lodge in Rockport, Mass.

We both loved it, highly recommend. The view of the ocean and sunrise was amazing. Very cute little town too.

Couldn't have said it better. Do not miss out on Burlington. Beautiful city, and a sunset walk along the lake is worth the trip.

As for breweries, Abita named some good ones. Foam Brewers is right on the water of Burlington Bay. Draft only right now, but they might have take home product by the time you go.

Burlington Beer Co is about 20 minutes East of there, another fantastic brewery not mentioned yet.

I would recommend late October just as others have said, if you want "fall"

Going for the first time at the end of July when I'm up there for the Vermont Brewers Festival. I can't wait. Heard lots of good things.

So looking at Airfare and it is almost 200 cheaper to fly into Boston or New Hampshire vs Vermont most of the time. Of course both say they are a 3-4 hour drive from places like Alchemist (not sure about Trillum and others though.)

Well Trillium is in Boston. Alchemist is in Burlington, which yes is about a 3-3 1/2 hour drive from Boston.

The menu changes and I haven't been since last summer, but the Hanger Steak remains.

Vermont is also known for its cheese, so make sure to order a couple off their menu.
