Is there no way to gift or transfer points without it costing an arm and a leg?

I have a friend who wants to travel to see family in the NE, but really can't afford it right now. I have enough to send him but transferring that amount of points will cost over $200.

So just buy the ticket for him. You can book an award ticket on your account in someone else's name.

Exactly. I've done this several times.

No need to officially transfer any points, certainly not if you have pay for it.

That's what I was thinking I would need to do. I just didn't want him to feel like he had to go through me to book it. I was hoping for a simpler method but I didn't realize they charged so much to transfer those things.
