It's much nicer than worrying about parking in either city or hitting traffic on 95. If you don't need a car in nyc then i'd definitely do it. If you're on a budget, you could do boltbus, greyhound or megabus for cheap.

I will be taking it first weekend in December. It isnt fairly expensive and will drop us off in middle of all the action. I have heard good things

Taken it quite a few times. Easiest way to get between the cities. Pay more and get the Acela and you have even less stops.

And if you prefer, they have quiet cars where you cannot talk on the train.

Or you looking for something more specfic?

My husband and I took it 12 years ago. The only thing I remember is some lunatic screaming at her cheating boyfriend (soon to be ex) on the phone the whole time. It was a very entertaining ride.

Took it there and back a few years ago with the wife and kids. The train ride was as expected, with no problems. You get to see the not-so-good sides of several cities (I think we went through Hamsterdam in Baltimore).
At Penn Station, there were only steps to get from the train platform (underground) up to the station (no elevator), which would typically be no big deal, except we had two little kids, luggage, and a stroller. Also, the cab line at Penn Station was very long.

If you are looking for quick, it's the fastest way. The earlier you buy the ticket, the cheaper it is. Acela can be under $100 if you get it early enough.

If you're looking for cheapest, then Megabus will get you there for less than $20.

Have friend coming down to DC for Thanksgiving. Delta shuttle is cheaper than train even with taxi to/from LGA.

Thanks everyone.

Train is definitely quicker overall than plane, plus im going to a rangers game, so pulling into penns station is a plus.

door to door it's probably faster to take the train

no security, no real waiting. Show up 5-10 minutes before your train is scheduled to leave, board, and you're off.

Plus more leg room, privacy, etc.

I love taking the train up and down the East Coast, so much easier than flying/driving...however I wish it were cheaper
