Thinking about heading to Austin/Fredericksburg area for a couple of days during the thanksgiving holiday. Will be traveling with two kids and the wife. Looking for lodging areas/ suggestions and places to visit.

You’ll have just missed the grape harvest.

Those towns aren’t that close, with lots to see and do in each. What types of things are you all interested in?

Not very familiar with the area other than internet research. Looking to do some hiking/ outdoor activities, but would not Mind spending some time in Austin or San Antonio for one day or two

The Nimitz Museum is a must. Second the recommendation for Otto's.

Chester Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg is awesome.

It may be a tad chilly for hiking. But if that’s your thing, check out Enchanted Rock.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Fredericksburg stay at the Hoffman Haus

Hike your family up on top of Enchanted Rock, and down into the cave system within.

Get there early. It will be a cluster Thanksgiving weekend if it isn't raining.

We experience a very high volume of visitors on all weekends and school holidays. Closures are guaranteed on all Saturdays from September through July 4 weekend. We also close on most Sundays and school holidays. The line often forms as early as 8 a.m. and park closure can happen as early as 9 a.m. Once the park fills in the morning, we will issue parking slips to the next 200 vehicles. Passes guarantee a place in the park that same afternoon. No parking is allowed on the sides of RR 965 at any time.

We just stayed at Baron's Creekside in Fredericksburg. It's a collection of cabins built by some rich Swiss guy that wanted to recreate the Swiss countryside.

As everyone else said head up to Enchanted Rock.
Otto's was great but might be expensive for a family trip.

Avoid Fredericksburg brewery-horrible food and very mediocre beer.

Truth. I found a little place called Rough Diamond Brewery on FM473 just west of Blanco doing really good IPAs.

And frankly, I try to avoid Fredericksburg as its over-run with tourist. I prefer Kerrville or Boerne even though my brother's ranch is only 10 miles from Fredericksburg.

Might be on the wrong side for what you're looking to do but we stayed at Hyatt lost pines a few years back over thanksgiving. Great for kids. Smores every night. Big thanksgiving dinner. Staff is amazing.
