I noticed the airfare thread that CUSE started. I've never been to Nashville and for 98 bucks, me and Mrs. Failure (no pics) might consider using the cheap airfare to check out a place we've never been.

We both like live music (although not really country), bar hoping, food etc. Is there a main area similar to New Orleans FQ that would be the middle of the action?

TIA

Stay along Broadway. That's where all the bars/restaurants are.

Nashville is an awesome town.

Corsair brewstillery and nelsons greenbriar distillery are both amazing...and right next door to each other. You won't have a bad plate of BBQ or chicken.

If you're up for an adventure find a way to make it out to santas pub....true locals only place in a huge trailer in the middle of nowhere that turns into the best house party you ever been too as the night goes on.

Those are what stuck out to me.... all of broadway blended together, but was an amazing time.

While you are there...eat at Jack's on Broadway. Some of the best BBQ you will find anywhere.

On the corner of Broadway across from the Bridgestone Arena is Rippy's. BBQ is o.k...but it is an excellent little bar to hang out in the Summer...roll-up garage doors open it up to the street.

I would typically stay at the Holiday Inn Express...it is about a 4 block walk to the main portion of Broadway. Nice enough, and close without paying an arm and a leg.

Not true and terrible advice, no offense. Broadway is great, but there is MUCH more to Nashville outside of Broadway and certainly a hell of a lot more bars and restaurants.

Areas to visit:
Broadway
The Gulch
Printer's Alley
Midtown
Demonbreun St (basically Midtown)
West End (near vandy and also close to midtown)
Germantown (catch a Nashville Sounds game)
8th Ave S (wonderful pool hall and restaurants

if you venture out, which I suggest, be sure to go to Loveless Cafe, Biscuit Love, Pancake Pantry, Jackson's, Martin's BBQ, Edley's BBQ, Jack's BBQ, Jack's Beer and Burger, Hattie B's (hot chicken- be sure to try, this is a MUST). Prince's Chicken (THE original hot chicken), Bolton's (extremely hot hot chicken)

plenty more. Check the websites such as Nashville Scene. If I think of something else I'll edit. Far too much to remember. But undoubtedly you are doing yourself a disservice when visiting if you stick to Broadway only.

The Westin has a phenomenal rooftop bar, called L27. There's another rooftop bar in The Gulch called UP Lounge. Another one in The Gukch I'm forgetting the name.

can't mention Rippy's without mentioning the infamous Bushwacker! It's an alcoholic chocolate shake, and 2 of them will have you drunk as a skunk.

Great suggestion, Phil. It is pretty awesome. I would also recommend the Country Music Hall of Fame. It may sound a bit lame...but it is actually a pretty awesome tour.

Also, make sure to get some Jeni's Ice Cream. I realize they are in other places, too...but it is still probably the best ice cream in Nashville.

Also, OP, if there is a concert going on at Ascend amphitheater while you are in town, definitely give it a whirl. Great outdoor venue

avoid nashville like the plague for the next 2 weeks until bonaroo, predators playoffs and CMA fest is over.

later in the summer you'll have a better time..right now you can't get anywhere in the city downtown.

At least bonnaroo is in Manchester. Not that bad where I'm at. CMA is a bitch though.

Bonnaroo...sleep in the dirt in Middle Tennessee in June. The music is great, and it is a fun atmosphere...but all of the dust kicked up in the fields makes it miserable. I went a couple of times over a decade back...I don't think I could do it again.

Roberts is one of my favorite places in the world.

Recommend Monells if you are hungry.

Wait at the Pancake Pantry is insane. And worth it somehow. Legit best pancakes I've ever eaten.
