States That Should be Open in Late June/Early July for Vacation?

I'm determined to take the family on a summer vacation. Is there a good comprehensive list somewhere that shows what states are ahead of others as far as opening back up? We're looking to take a trip in late June - July 4.

What does your family like to do for fun?

I would expect that any states with republican governors to be open for the most part

Open to just about anything honestly.

Pretty much what I told my wife.

Look at lake houses in north Georgia and in South Carolina. Lake Hartwell, Lake Lanier, etc...

Western USA Vacation with Kids Ages 4 & 8

With kids 4 & 8 Myrtle Beach is a good option; lots of mini golf, an alligator farm, and other things to spend $ on that kids like to do. Late June to July 4th is the most expensive & crowded time. (I would not go there at that time but it might work for you.)
Are you driving or flying and how many days is the vacation?
Is camping an option?

Not yet but discouraged to see that only a small percentage of Yellowstone is opening up at this time.
Possibly still looking into Oregon coast.

Will look into this too.

Open to either. Looking to travel June 26 - July 5.

Maybe for some but not all of the trip.

As to your original question, I don't know of a list of open states but here are a few ideas for road trips from LA. With 9 nights and 10 days you have a lot of road trip options from LA; I assume you are in Louisiana.
St. Louis has a lot of things to do for kids. On the way you could drive through, camp some perhaps, at Land Between the Lakes National Rec. Area. They have an Elk & Bison Prairie that you can drive around and have a good chance of seeing some wildlife. It's not Yellowstone but the kids would probably enjoy it. We drove through there last summer on the way to YS and other places out west.

St. Louis has:
The Arch
Grants Farm; the Clydesdale used to be here but I'm not sure they still are.
Zoo
Children's museum, at least one
Great restaurants
Baseball
Fantastic fireworks display on July 4th at the Arch
But it is usually hot and humid around the 4th.
You could also continue to Wisconsin and go to Door County; wife will probably love it, kids not so much. Or the Wisconsin Dells; lots of amusement parks.
If going north doesn't appeal; so west to the Texas hill county; Garner State Park, San Antonio, Austin, Big Bend(maybe too far?), or even New Mexico.
Go east and Atlanta and Chattanooga both have great aquariums and then spend time in north GA/east TN/west NC/sw Virginia. I think NC will be open by then; the Gov. is talking about going to phase 2 on 5/22. VA, who knows.
The road trip strategy that works best for us is to stay at least 2 nights, 3 is usually better, in one place and see the sights there. We usually go back to the hotel and rest mid-day. That works well for the elderly and the young.
We get off the interstate as much as possible. We take our time between hotels unless we're just trying to get some place as quickly as we can such as when it's time to go home.

I would look towards the outdoors and stay away from cities. National Parks and the like.

I'm worried that everyone is going to have the same idea, it will turn into a crowded mess and they will shut all the parks down.
No Europe, no cruises, no Disney, no Vegas... pretty much everyone is itching to travel and the options are starting to look like local beach or national park. Hope I'm wrong.

I wish they would quit dragging arse. There are several areas along the gulf coast that they haven't announced a date yet.

That also means no tour buses or foreigners in the parks. It might balance out.

oh, it has.
the national forests here (especially in the high country as phoenix warmed up) were overrun with people in the last few weeks. lots of trash everywhere, unattended campfires (we're in stage 2 fire restrictions) and generally people who don't know how to take care of the outdoors.
the developed sites and trails just re-opened after being closed for the last month. and grand canyon is slowly reopening as well. only thing that will shut them down now is a wildfire in the area.

The Smokies are mostly open now and should be pretty much all the way open by late June. A lot of restaurants in Gatlinburg are open and more of the attractions should be open by the end of the month. I'm not too sure on the North Carolina side of the Smokies.
