Somebody could probably give you more specifics about trying to find somewhere downtown, but a good rule of thumb is south of I-70 and along the I-270 corridor.

Somewhere between Maryland Heights and Des Peres would be my recommendation. It makes the trip downtown (I-64) and out to Eureka (Six Flags I-270 to I-44) fairly easy.

You would need to be driving to get to what you want to see, but you'd stay not dead.

Airbnb in the "city" can be very spotty, and i mean with crime. Look up on a map the difference in st louis city and st louis county. If you want to be near downtown the areas of dogtown, midtown, central west end, the hill, tower grove south(not east) are your best bet. In st Louis, a lot of the attractions arent really walking safe. Example, walking to what should be high on your list, the city museum, you shouldn't be walking too. Not distance so much as crime. You should park in the safe parking lot they have, even though its downtown. Rule of thumb, anything north even just a block of Washington avenue is no go zone.

What are some of museums you're wanting to go too?

A list of what I think are the absolute musts in st louis are:

The zoo

City Museum

The Arch

Busch stadium/ballpark village

Six Flags

Forest park(biggest urban park in america, the zoo is here)

Grants farm(home to the anheuser busch world famous Clydesdale)

Art and history museums

.. Unfortunately most of these things arent close to each other. Not far, about 10ish minute drive, but not walking.

Last, if you're flexible, Id suggest waiting till first week of April. If the cardinals are in town, the city is totally different. Far more lively, and for that, safer. especially if you want to talk around downtown. Its a night and day difference, and it will make your experience much much better.

CWE is gonna be a really neat place in the next year or two. A ton of new and Tall buildings being built.

Been to a few places in CWE. Son and wife looked at an apartment there but rent is pretty high for what you get. Since he's in school and then are on one income, options are limited. But live downtown right off of Washington and they love living in the city.

Some great breweries in STL. And I'll second the suggestion on the Zoo, pretty cool with it being free and only paying for parking.

Agree with other poster about waiting and going during a Cards game. It transforms the city and is about 10x safer than normal. Would also be careful walking anywhere. Uber even if it’s a couple blocks.

Disagree with that statement. We walk around a lot downtown and I've never really felt unsafe. Especially if it's when the cards are in town. Now this is all around 4th and Washington going back towards town but have done a lot of walking in that area, even to Soulard. Depending on the time of the night I might hesitate but just use common sense and find out about the area you are staying in.

Agree on a night of a game. Totally different city/atmosphere at that point. Maybe not so much on a March night. And also agree with Soulard statement as it seems quite a bit safer in general. Typical common sense as stated works wonders.
