Go to Trunk Bay and snorkel around the small “cay” just off the beach. It’s an amazing place to snorkel. Trunk Bay may have the prettiest water I’ve ever seen.

Do you have passports? I've heard that the BVI has lifted the quarantine and you may be able to take the ferry over to Jost and day trip there if it's back on schedule.

BVI is still in quarantine and everything is closing around 5pm. Locals are very covid crazy at the moment. Not to mention all of the BVI regulations right now are very tricky to navigate. I would recommend sticking with the USVI if you have never been to either. St John is a good bet

Then that is an about face. I received notification from White Bay Villas a few weeks ago that the quarantine was lifted. Here it is as of the 16th from White Bay Villas. A few hoops to jump through but vaccinated travelers are welcome.

quote:

July 16th, 2021 - Update:

Travel Authorization is Required for Entry to the BVI.

- Apply on-line on the BVI Gateway, a separate application for each traveler, no less than 48 hours prior to travel. LINK - If you are flying into St Thomas, you will need to apply for the USVI Travel Authorization as well. LINK

- Receive a negative PCR Covid 19 test within five days and no less than 24 hours of travel (vaccinated travelers included).

- Order provisions online no less than one week prior to your arrival so that your provisions may be delivered on time for during your stay with us.

- Upload all documents in a PDF format to the Gateway no less than 24 hours prior to travel. Negative test results, proof of vaccination
(if available), proof of health insurance, travel itineraries, accommodation confirmation, and copy of passport will be required for each traveler.

- Once you arrive in Tortola, you will immediately receive a rapid Covid 19 test.

- Fully vaccinated travelers will be free to explore the BVI immediately- For unvaccinated travelers: You must remain on White Bay Villas property under quarantine. On day 7, you will receive a second Covid 19 test at the clinic in Great Harbor. Once you receive a negative result of your second test, you will be free to go anywhere in the BVI.

- If you are traveling back to the USVI, even if you are just passing through to get home, you will have to apply for travel authorization once more and test within 48 hours of travel unless you have proof of Antibody Test. Please visit the USVI Travel Portal for updated requirements.

I have close friends that got back from the BVI the other day. My info came from them directly.

Nonetheless, I assume it will be back open in a few weeks once this new wave clears up.

When you say you don’t want to rent something off the beaten path, does that mean you want to stay in Cruz Bay? Also, when are you planning on going and what type of budget are you looking at?

Understood. I have friends on Jost and can reach out to them. I don't see the benefit to White Bay Villas to publish false information.

When returning my Jeep on Saturday the agent remarked how numbers are up in the BVI and they are beginning to shut back down.

We made the mistake of staying on St Thomas and took a day trip to St John. The entire time we were there all I could think about was how I should have spent a little more to stay on St John!
St. Thomas has some nice beaches but St John is paradise!

I don’t like the sound of all of the restrictions. Looking into next year but who knows what will happen then. We may look elsewhere or wait till end of year to book so we see restrictions.

Just got back Sunday. We stayed in St. Thomas and after visiting St. John said we should’ve stayed there.

Just a totally different vibe. Better beaches, less crowded and less rundown.

St. Thomas wasn’t bad but it’s where the regular folks live- if that makes sense.

What’s a good spending budget for a week in St. John’s? Groceries, b-fast/lunch/dinners, drinking, excursions etc

St. John without a doubt. Better beaches and more to do. We stayed at Villa Ixora in early June and it was beautiful. Only downside is no air conditioning which is more common there than I realized. They have plenty of fans and ventilation making it tolerable while sleeping but may be a deal breaker for some. Snorkeling at Maho Bay is a must. Will see lots of fish and sea turtles. You can rent a sailboat or boat for a day and the captain can take you to spots only reachable by boat. I'd recommend going to Mongoose Junction for some shops to please the ladies. Definitely rent a Jeep. Make sure it's a Jeep too. 4 wheel drive is important. Let me know if you need restaurant recs as well. St. John is really beautiful and yall will enjoy the time spent there.
