Just a friendly FYI

For those of you who fly Southwest and are looking to book beyond 11/3, the new schedule load will be available tomorrow with seats through the first week of January.

Thanks for the heads up. I was trying to book something the second week of November and was wondering when I'd have access. I figured it was rolling forward, didn't know that they come out in chunks.

Do they usually add them at midnight? Or just a random time tomorrow?

Booking our flights for Disney for Thanksgiving and we have a big group going.

Thanks, my alert went off on my phone this morning to remind me. I will be on tonight. I want to try and use my rewards points so I will be calling first thing in the morning, they let you book through Southwest but you can't do it on the credit cards website and instead have to go through their phone number.

Are the points through a third party card like Chase Saphire or Cap One Venture?

Can't be Chase. I just did it all on my phone in about 5 minutes.

Went price out how many SW points I'd need. Went to Chase and transferred. They showed up instantaneously and I booked.

Once flights were released, they all sold out of the "wanna get away" fares pretty quickly. Is this normal? Does Southwest open more flights or release more cheaper seats?

What time did they go live? I was up at midnight & waited 15 minutes & gave up. Booked a flight this morning & the wanna get away fares were almost gone. I miss the SW of about 12 years ago where you could fly to New Orleans from Dallas for $100 round trip.

They ended up going live after 7am EDT.

I thought they would have gotten their shite together when they transferred over to an Amadeus reservations system, but that is not the case.

Southwest IT has always been a laggard. Fun fact- the reason they do not fly to Canada is because their reservations and financial controls cannot process foreign currency.

Finally have some time to comment on this. Looks like there's a few updates for New Orleans and Houston with this schedule extension. Nola to NYC now nonstop and cheap ($122 each way!)

Nola:

Sacramento (SMF) is going seasonal. This route was sunday only so check back next spring

New York City Laguardia (LGA) is now daily starting November 4th.
Departs MSY 9:10AM
Arrives LGA 12:55PM

Departs LGA 6:25PM
Arrives MSY 9:00PM

Pittsburgh is gone after October 28th

Houston gains 4 nonstop flights to:
Burbank California (BUR), Liberia Costa Rica (LIR), Philadelphia (PHL), and Sacramento (SMF)

I have a ski trip I take every year the week before Christmas and the flights around Xmas and Thanksgiving never go down in price unlike most others dates after the calendar is released and they typically sell out of the Get Away fares very quickly. Also the flights are normally in their system around 5:30am CST but today it didn’t update until 7am CST. Made for a frustrating morning due to the late upload time

You can transfer your UR to rapid rewards yes.

Some people may want to book a revenue fare through the chase travel portal and they can book southwest for you over the phone.

Since the portal gets you 1.5cts per pt depending on your card, it can end up being slightly better than transferring.

Same here. Trying to get to Orlando the week of Thanksgiving and again at Christmas. I know that is a busy time, especially Thanksgiving because it is even shorter. I got up at 3:30 in the morning and nothing was there, up again around 8 or so and almost all the Wanna Get Away prices are gone. I am hoping more will open up at some point. Last year we booked over Christmas and didn't have issues getting Wanna Get Away for really great prices ($450 for the two of us RT). Not sure why this Christmas would be so much more expensive and sold out so much further in advance, last year I don't think we booked until September. I am just going to wait and if prices don't go down then I will use my Chase rewards and figure it will at least cover the extra high costs this year.

Looks like Southwest also reduced a bunch of flights from MSY. Lower frequency for Houston, Ft. Lauderdale, Raleigh-Durham, Nashville, Chicago and Columbus OH.

On the flip side, the aforementioned LaGuardia flight is back, along with increases to Phoenix, Sacramento and St. Louis.

Seasonal, but will go up to once daily in November

The LGA add is a good get for MSY, a result of Virgin leasing its slots there to Southwest (DCA landed OKC because of the deal).

This could be related to either the fall/winter season slowing way down for leisurely travel or southwest needing to inspect their planes further after the fiasco last month.
