Looking to do a short trip with the wife from 5-26 to 5-30. She wanted to go to Destin but everywhere seems to be booked up or outrageously expensive. Any good alternates that are a reasonable driving distance (less than 8 hrs).

Would consider a short flight if the prices were reasonable.

Pensacola still had options that weren't stupid. Holiday inn resort there we have stayed at that is nice. Shaded pool deck in the afternoon. No sunscreen needed with the hotel to the west facing north and south. Food place on site is really good as well.

Fort Walton Beach as well. There is a spring hill suites (I believe it is) that is very nice. Free breakfast there.

Try searching in Navarre Beach or Perdido Key.
There is a pretty nice Hilton in Pensacola if you want to look at a hotel.
It’s kind of late to be making reservations so good luck

Thanks, I checked out those places but still seeing $400/night prices.

Now considering non-beach areas. Any recommendations? We though about San Antonia or Austin.

Texas has a lot of great options. But May is their rainiest month of the year with a constant threat of severe weather so check the forecast.

The OP isn't wanting to pay for a $400 a night place on the gulf coast. I doubt this suggestion will work for him.

Hampton Inn, Miami Beach for $220/night...very close to beach but not beach front.

One of our favorite getaways

Private beach and we’ve never been and it been super busy. 45 minutes from Orlando if you have access to a good airport, shouldn’t be an expensive flight.
