Seattle - Portland. What to do?
Flying into Seattle and spending a week in the Seattle - Portland area. Looking at a day or two in Seattle, driving to the coast for a couple days and rounding out the week wth a couple days is Portland. First week of April.

Any suggestions for places to stay, things to do, etc.

Thanks!!!

If the weather cooperates, I'd definitely make the 2.5 hour drive to Paradise if you've never been.

Check out my thread (either bottom of page 1 or on page 2) about portland and driving the coast there. Would recommend cannon beach, perfect little beach town in OR

I personally liked Seattle way more than Portland. I did enjoy the Japanese Garden in Portland though. Portlands downtown just didn't do it for me. way too many bums.

Seattle, I greatly enjoyed walking around Discovery Park. Seattle's downtown is just really awesome in my opinion. Japonessa is solid for sushi. Storyville has some bomb coffee.

Thought this was the biggest waste of money. Was not impressed. I'd recommend the test rose garden over this. Plus it's free.

Either. Haven’t made any plans yet.

Thanks Cuse, I’ll check it out.

Weird, I encountered way more bums in Seattle than in Portland. Plus I enjoyed the endless amount of brewpubs in Portland and that there was a lot of nice nature stuff just a short drive outside of town.

I'm with you. Enjoyed Portland substantially more than Seattle, which isn't how I thought I'd feel before the trip.

re: Seattle - Portland. What to do?
I just booked a great deal on AA Air from LFT to PDX in August Going to have 7 nights in PNW.

Is this "loop" feasible or too much?

- Portland to Astoria (1)
- up the coast to to Olympic NP (La Push or Port Angeles?) (1)
- then to downtown Seattle (3)
- and then head back down to Portland* (2 )

*and fit in Mt Rainier and Mt St Helen's and the Gorge on the way back in the last 2 days?
Any suggestion appreciated

Yes..
I did this route.. but the opposite direction..

Saw all the film sights from goonies and kindergarten cop in Astoria..

Then , if the weather is nice , camp on the Olympia peninsula..

See the sights in Seattle.

Head back down and see the volcano.. (don't forget to have a full tank on this one)

Then back down to Portland..

Aug 11th to 18th. Seems like a prime time for weather. I was originally trying to fly to Seattle, but when the priced dropped to $1100 for 3 round trip tickets to Portland with a short layover in Dallas...I went for it. Leaving out of Lafayette saves so much time in not having to drive to New Orleans or Houston. I bought the ticket now have to set the trip up.

Oh I haven't told the wife yet

Does it matter if I go Portland to coast to Seattle first ? Seems like half a dozen of one, 6 of another but....

- Portland to Astoria (1)

I would make a small change. Go to Astoria via Tillamook. If you like craft beer with a view, go to Pacific City and eat lunch at the Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City (not Cannon Beach). Then drive up the coast from Tillamook to Astoria.

Portland to Tillamook to Astoria will add about an hour to your drive of just going directly from Portland to Astoria. However, the drive between Tillamook and Cannon Beach is epic, and Cannon Beach really is a perfect little beach town.

Cannon Beach is all class. Seaside, OR is pretty trashy.

Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City, which is 1/2 hour south of Tillamook.
