Recommendations for Pig Boarding

The family and I are leaving town on Sunday for 3 weeks. We had arrangements to board our mini pig in his usual spot, but now it looks like they may not be able to keep him. Any recommendations for places that will keep a small pig? I'm thinking somewhere like a farm. I'll start making phone calls if necessary, but I was hoping one of you folks had a recommendation. He's fixed and weighs about 75 lbs.
I'd prefer not to put him in a kennel, considering how long we'll be gone, and also since it would cut into my beer-drinking fund.

Also, your location would probably help a lot...

He has a pen in the garage during the night, we put him out for most of the day. As long has he has water and somewhere to get out of the sun he's fine. He gets fed a scoop of pig food in the morning and night.
I guess I should have mentioned, I'm in Baton Rouge.

My wife had one for 19 years. There is a petting farm off of Bluff Rd, they might watch if you donate some money to help with their upkeep.

Thanks, I'll add them to my list. This pig can be kinda ornery around new people, so a "non-petting" environment would be preferable, but they might know of somebody.

Have you checked with your vet?

You may be better off just paying a responsible teenager to take care of him at your house. You can often find someone for $20-30/ day. Maybe less. Jus that's them stop by, let it out, feed them, and then reverse in the morning. It's not easy to find good care for any pet while you are gone, a pigs gonna be tough.

Yep--I agree--find a responsible person in your neighborhood & pay them to let him in & out. It will be cheaper & less stressful than boarding. I do this w/cats....in my semi-rural area, I get a cat sitter for $10/day (plus I usually add a fat tip)...she comes 2x daily, feeds, scoops litter, and provides a little attention. Sitter also texts proof of life pics to my neurotic husband.

I used to do this for a neighbor's cat back in the day, except he'd leave for the entire winter! I'd go open up a bag of cat food every month.
Unfortunately the pig is particular about who he likes and doesn't like - and most people are on the "don't like" list. The place we usually take him has been watching him since he was young, so they're fine. I appreciate the suggestions though!

If the pig is particular, don't you think it will be even worse at another location? Just seems like keeping it at home would be most comforting. How much interaction does the pig need? Does one have to be with the pig to take care of it? As in can you feed it and open the door to let it out/ in without being in the same room as the pig?
Animals can be a real pita when you go out of town. Seems like anytime I have a dog sitter they randomly get diarrhea or puke every time.

It does require one-on-one interaction. Taking him from his inside pen to outside requires putting a harness on him, walking him out to his outside pen, and removing the harness, then the reverse when it's time for him to go in. I work from home about half the time, and we don't leave him out if we either my wife or I are not at the house (we live in a neighborhood).
We've never been gone more than 4-5 days since we've had him (3 years), and he's always gone to the same place for boarding. So I'm really starting from square one today. I'm also going to contact the guy he was purchased from to see if they can watch him... Oh, and pigs aren't good pets. Don't recommend.

A cat is a traveler's best friend. Most do not care whether you're home or not, as long as the desired food appears on a regular schedule.

They are similar to a cat in their desire to be around humans and have the intelligence of a 3 year old kid. Smart and no diesire to please...

I'd say that sums it up pretty well.

This is what I picture every time I see someone selling little piglets with a sign that says "miniature".

Only other suggestion is post on the outdoor board. Someone there may have a farm capable of housing him. If you were near me i totally have a pig sanctuary my buddy's dad and step mom run, but it's way out in fl.
