Question on biz class to Melbourne

For you regular biz travelers...
Wife and I are heading to a wedding in Melbourne, Aus. I'm planning on transferring Chase UR points to United and booking star alliance partner flights...
I'd prefer only one stop but I'm interested in booking ANA from IAD to NRT, then either ANA (787-9) or Thai (a380) to BKK, then Thai onto MEL (90k UR each way).
My question: from NRT to BKK, would you suggest ANA on the dreamliner or Thai in royal silk?
Thanks

Took the United Dreamliner from LAX to MEL a few months ago. First time on the Dreamliner and it was great. They seem to stick all the old Continental crew up front so the service was excellent. Slept almost 8 hours on the way there and about 4 on the way back.

Was that refitted with the Polaris seats?

You can use a website like planefinder.net to figure out what aircraft they are using on the route. You don't just want the aircraft, it should also have the airlines "Reg" too, which is the airlines serial number if you will for that aircraft. Sometimes an airline may have some 787s retrofit with a lie flat seats while their other ones aren't, so you need to see what actual planes are flying the route. You can find this under database or history on other sites.
May not be applicable to you but check it out.
I haven't flown ANA but I'd bet they are better. I flew Thai business from Seoul to Bangkok and Bangkok to Shanghai and it was just a giant lazyboy recliner. If that's still in use then ANA will likely be lie flat and better.

Thanks, Teddy. I'll check out planefinder. I'm pretty sure the new Thai business (royal silk) on the a380s and a350s are the new lie flat seats, but I'll definitely check that site to make sure...

Ya if they bought a new plane like the 350 I'd be shocked if it wasn't lie flat.
After that, one service may be better than another but you'll have to read reviews for that. Once I have a lie flat seats I don't really care about anything else after that.
I'm about to take Swiss business from Dar Es Salaam to Zurich right now so I'm excited about that.
