The wife and I are planning a 4 night trip to Burlington, VT in October. The problem is the Vermont State Health Dept says we must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. My question is how enforceable is this? Is it worth the risk or should we just cancel it now to avoid the trouble?

I went to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont in June/July. Flew in/out Boston

No problems anywhere but had to sign a form in Maine at the bed and breakfast saying i would quarantine. And then didn’t. lol

I was simultaneously quarantining in 4-5 states.

Just check their airport info—some states take it more seriously than others.

Were the travel restrictions as tight then? As long as they aren’t strict with enforcing, we’ll be fine but that’s the rub. I’m like you though, I good “quarantining” anywhere

We just wanna do some hiking/biking trails, get some fresh air, see somewhere new etc

If it's open, check out citizen cider. Pretty cool place.

You may have to sign a certificate of sorts that says you’ve met self-quarantine requirements, etc., but much of it is still just an honor system.

I have high school friends that still live in Burlington — many have noted the number of visitors still coming into the state. The one thing to consider is just how proud Vermonters are about the very, very low positivity rates. Of course, it’s easier to distance there, but don’t be an a-hole and you’ll be fine.

Sounds good. We’re planning on being in the Burlington area but most of our plans are away from people anyway

Not sure if you've been, but you'll love Burlington. Honestly, it's the quintessential college town. UVM has a beautiful campus, Church Street is pedestrian-only, and it's hard to beat a sunset over The Adirondacks / Lake Champlain.

Many visitors venture a little further from Burlington for activities. However, if there's one day you aren't looking too far, I have a couple ideas.

ETA: Abitafan does weekend trips to Vermont, too, so I'm sure he has some recommendations.

This is true and I'm happy to give recs. OP where in VT are you looking to go? Nevermind, just saw you said Burlington.

Great small college town with lots of good restaurants and breweries. I haven't been up there since COVID so I have no idea what's open and to what to degree they are open, and what's flat out closed.

But, I can tell you that Skinny Pancake is a great breakfast spot, and Hen of the Wood is an absolute must for dinner one night.

Breweries in and around Burlington that I really like are: Foam, Burlington Beer Co., Fiddlehead. There are MANY MANY more, that's just the list from the top of my head.

Go hang out on Lake Champlain, it's absolutely beautiful with the Adirondack mountains in the background.

Might even be worth the try for an outside seat in Waterbury and make the drive.

I'd also recommend Shelburne Farms. Incredible property, incredible views, and a straight-shot down Route 7.

Foam's patio is a great setting on the lake.

I lived in Williston, so familiar with BBCO. If driving a bit further is in the cards, I'd also go Frost in Hinesburg. It's about 20 minutes from Burlington. Very nice back roads.

Four Quarters is making a name for itself. Technically, it's in Winooski, but feels like Burlington since it's walking distance.

Waterbury location is better, but then you have to think about not drinking too much to make it back to Burlington. I’d rather get to enjoy myself and not worry about driving.

I have to be honest, I've never been overly impressed with what I've had from Frost. But I haven't been to the brewery so maybe the stuff they have on tap there is better.

Haven't been to Four Quarters but the cans I've had from them are good.

Appreciate all the recommendations
Yea I was mainly concerned about the travel restrictions but it sounds like we should be fine. Looking forward to trying some of these places out
