Duckfat
Eventide

Otto Pizza
Street and Co.
Sea Glass

Breweries:

Allagash
Battery Steele
Foundation
Maine Beer Company
Rising Tide
Oxbow

Liquid Riot (it's ok, just a good location)
Bissell Brothers
Austin Street

There was a recent thread on this with many recommendations. Here it is.

We took the 20 minute ferry ride out to Peaks Island, which has several blocks of residences and at least one bar/restaurant (when we were there).

That was interesting. I think someone posted here that they rented bikes to explore the island. Looks like they rent golf carts too.

I just got back

Great restaurants everywhere

My favorite was central provisions. We sat at the chefs table which is basically the bar in front of the kitchen. We had about 7 different items and with drinks it was less than $150 total for 2.

Eventide is a must. Sample all the different oysters.

Street and Co is also a must.

We had duckfat twice for lunch

ETA: went to honey paw for an appetizer (next door to eventide) while we were waiting on a table and it was very good

For drinks my favorite bar is mashtun. Curtis the bartender is great. Tons of great beers.

If you’re looking at breweries I’d suggest battery steele and Allagash which are right by each other. Easy Uber ride

Yes for street and co—we walked in on Sunday night while drinking next door at mashtun and grabbed them for the next night. Don’t bother looking at opentable, etc because it was showing no reservations were available

Central provisions does not. We went on a Thursday night around 8:30 and were able to grab a seat without waiting. They have a bar on the bottom floor where you can eat off the full menu but I’d definitely rec upstairs at the chefs counter (no added charge).

ETA: at street and co I had the sole special, we split mussel appetizer, we split a dozen raw oysters, my wife had scallops

At CP we had squash salad, tuna (special), suckling pig, cauliflower, bone marrow toast, lamb (special)

Yes. Other places owned by the same people are Fore Street (best place in town in my opinion) and Scales, a seafood place on the water. All are very good and take reservations. Grace is another very good place.

Wife and I are looking to get away for a long weekend 11/1-11/4.

We were leaning NYC, have no itinerary.

Portland is an intriguing option, is there enough to do to be somewhat entertained for 2 days? Do I need to rent a car?

Yes absolutely, plenty of great things to do and see for 2 days.

A car would be helpful, but honestly you can just Uber everywhere and be fine.

Honestly, as much as I love New York, that’s a really short window to go there. I’d recommend somewhere more manageable for a 2-3 day trip.

I agree, NYC is a bit stressful for a get in and get out. Again, no itinerary, so basically, were just planning on getting dinner a couple of nights and shopping during the day.

Portland sounds like it may be more stress-free.

I'll check out the other threads as well, but is early November good to go for Portland? Sound like a good weekend trip? Wouldn't mind venturing up to Freeport to check out LL Bean as well.

Is it fair to label honeypaw as a ramen spot??

Also has anyone been to the Lobster Shack on cape Elizabeth? The wife wants to go there but looks like a tourist trap to my naked eye.

Yeah it will be a nice time of year. Colder, but definitely not as crowded as the summer months. And as others have mentioned, there’s no shortage of great food

I'm gonna float it out to the wife, food looks outstanding.

If we flew in Friday midday and left Sunday midday, what are we looking at for "entertainment" for 2 days. I honestly have no idea.

If y'all are beer people, there is no shortage of places to go. Also, tons of historic landmarks worth visiting, and as you said you can always get out to the LL Bean store if that's what you're interested in.

All in all, it's just a very mellow, beautiful part of the country and it's a great spot to just relax.

If you like to eat and drink the answer is a resounding yes.

As far as a car the city is definitely walkable. Uber is readily available. We did have a car because we went up the coast to bar harbor—Boothbay Harbor >>>>. Bar harbor by the way. If you are going to stick around Portland I’d say the only reason to rent a car is if you wanted to drive 30 min down to Kennebunkport.
