I just talked to my wireless company. They don't offer service in Europe. Where can I buy a sims card for one month's service in Europe?

Most major airports will have a phone store after you exit passport control. Unless you're fluent in the local language, you might fare better by buying a sim at one of the airport stores, as the employees are more likely to speak English there.

Also, what kinda crazy offbrand provider doesn't offer European service?

Cricket Wireless (y'all know I'm cheap). You can't beat $100 a month for four phones with unlimited data

Yeah, you can buy a sim card pretty cheap when you get there. I went with AT&T, but got the sim card because international roaming is spensive.

Buying a local sim card is the way to go.....if your phone is unlocked. I have paid as little as 5 euro for a 1 gig data (unlimited talk and 1000 texts) to $25 for 1 gig data (netherlands). It just depends on what country you are in.

I guess I should have said it will cost me an arm and a leg to use my phone. I will have service, but will be spensive (like some one said)

If you're cheap, just use free wifi to make calls using google voice, etc.

I managed to make it 10 days in southern Italy and only turned on data for 2 days. I got by with hotel wi-fi and downloaded Google maps for offline use. Best travel tip ever: even when you aren’t using data, an offline Google map will display the “blue dot” showing where you are on the map. So you really don’t need data for walking-around navigation if you download the maps you need in advance.
