I will be visiting a friend for a weekend who moved there a few months ago. Recommendations for restaurants please (and cocktail bars if they’re open). We will be celebrating a birthday. Thanks.

Restaurants are 25% capacity indoor dining, a lot still haven't opened up indoors yet bc the weather has been so nice. Most everywhere has adopted some form of outdoor dining tho.

I'm in Fishtown.

Suraya, Laser Wolf (same people as Zahav), Front Street Cafe (brunch), Martha's, Frankford Hall (german beer garden), Kensington Quarters, Cheu/Nunu, Murphs are all excellent. R&D, KungFu Necktie, International Bar, Johnny Brendas all have great drinks.

Use the Infatuation food guides they are great. Eater Philly is good too.

Thanks! This my friend’s short list who lives near Washington Square and really hasn’t been able to venture out. Let me know what to avoid or any other recommendations.
The Olde Bar
Amada
Bud & Marilyn’s
Monk’s
The Franklin
Hop Sing if it’s open

That's a good list.

Bud & Marilyn's is awesome
Monk's is a world famous Belgian beer bar.

If you are into beer let me know and I can give you a bunch of beer specific recs. I would just check the seating situation at all of these places before you go. Most are still outdoor only, a few have opened indoors but seating is so limited. Reservations in general are extremely tough right now. Really need to plan a month out or whenever they go live.

I don't like the broccoli rabe on mine either fwiw. Philly has so many good sandwich places, its probably the best thing it does.

ETA I will add the mayor just changed indoor dining to 50% on 10/2 but I do think a lot of places will remain hesitant until the weather forces everyone inside. Still good news tho

Well, Philadelphia just went into a lockdown. I still plan on making the trip but no fun in bars or restaurants on this trip.
