My wife and I are going to Philly Labor Day weekend to catch the Cubs @ Phillies. Neither of us have been there before and I'd like suggestions on what part of town to stay in. I know most big cities have areas that should be avoided for one reason or another.

Rittenhouse square is a good area. Avoid kensington and north Philly by Temple University

Like already said, I love the area around Rittenhouse Square. Close to Market and Chesnutt street for all the food and drink needs you have. In that area for nostalgic Belgium food and great beer visit Monks. Best buffalo chicken sammich in existence at Devils Alley. Rooftop cocktail to end the night at Continental.

I love staying in olde city. It can take you away from activities in center city but it's only a short uber ride

I like that ball park and probably the best ball park food out there. If you like good beer check out Independence Beer Garden.

Reading terminal market for lunch one day.

Dinics roast pork sandwich is one of my favorites in the city.

Reading terminal is a must

If you dont mind spending a few $$ on a nice meal, take your lady to the Butcher and Singer.

Also, a really cool wine bar with great food is downtown called Tria Cafe Rittenhouse

It’s super easy to get to the ballpark. I’d stay Center City. Below Washington Ave gets a little sketchy, and North Philly isn’t great. With that said, Fishtown is a fantastic area but it’s more of a young/hipster crowd. Still badass places.

Old City has all your history. 200+ year old bars, where our nation was founded...Things like that.

As for food and things like that, it’s all about what you want. Do you want a 5-Star meal or a cool/chill spot? Are you and the wife drinkers at all?

Del Friscos Steakhouse is amazing. It’s in an old bank and the atmosphere is hard to beat. Ashton cigar bar is a very swanky place to get whiskey and smoke a cigar.

although it's a chain, del friscos is probably the best steakhouse I've been to across the country.
