Does anyone know when passport processing will pick back up? I’ve been holding off because the website says if documents are submitted now, expect significant delays. My wife and I are going to Jamaica in March 2021 for our anniversary. Our resort is booked but we’ve been holding off on booking our flight to see what the passport situation will become. Should we just wait it out or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Are you getting a passport for the first time or renewing?

I’m in a simple situation, but, renewing. My thought is to get the process started ASAP (sitting on my arse currently) to get it “in line” for once they get back to it.

If it’s first time, I’m not sure the best way to approach.

This is my first passport. My wife has hers but, she let it expire so she’ll need to get hers too.

You can probably get yours in person, she can do hers by mail. I sent mine in at the end of February and when i talked to the guy on the phone a few months ago he had literally no idea what the delay would be. He said usually they have 300 people processing passports (takes 2 months), now they have 20. No timeframe at all

This is such BS. They are holding my birth certificate and it’s been 3 months of waiting.

My wife is renewing hers now. Sent in early April, check chases mid April, still nothing back. She called but there was no update or any info they could give her.

All agencies and centers are opening on June 3rd to assess backlogs, orders, and etc..

If this is life and death, you can still get a passport by going to one of the agencies.

I would expect them to be caught up by the end of September. If you need it sooner, you will need to ask to get it out to go to an agency.

This isn’t life or death but, I’ve been waiting to book our flight until we receive our passports. Would you go ahead and submit the documentation now to get in line or wait until the backlog is caught up? The last 3 months has been full of so many unknowns.

I would hold off another month, they are going to be assessing over the next week on how to clear things out.

Unless you are getting a visa, you can pretty well change your passport number up to a few days before a flight most of the time. So you can always put in a placeholder if getting the flight now is important.

Where did you make your appointment at if you don’t mind me asking?

And remember that if you have travel within two weeks and do not have your passport, you can make an emergency appt and get it same day or next day. Sometimes a little longer if you need a visa.

Agencies in New Orleans (Canal St), Houston and if you are in north Louisiana, Hot Springs might be better as they have windows.

Only doing it for life and death situations per the state dept website. I did that with mine a couple years ago and it was perfect. Dallas has it.

The life and death will probably be lifted within the next month if things go as planned.
