those who flew in to SLC, did you rent a car? Some say the public transportation is great. Deer Valley or Park City Mountain for Beginner / Inexperienced skiers?

I assume you don't need a 4wd? How's the downtown, food and drink scene?

I was there last Sunday. Main Street was very busy with several options.

Here now, rented a Camry. No need for awd currently. It’s fricken hot the last few days. Find shade and you’re golden.

Can you not make a similar trip to Colorado? I wouldn't recommend SLC/Park City. The logistics for renting a car is a pain in the arse in the new airport. I'd plan 60-90 minutes for that alone.

(edit) For skiing, I'd also recommend Colorado for beginner/intermediate level if you can change course. Better snow and less icy.

Disagree. As long as you rent with a company in terminal it’s smooth. (Avis, hertz, national, etc)

Now if you take the fox rent a car bait you have nobody to blame but yourself

Agree that new SLC airport is less convenient than old, especially if not flying Delta.

BUT, it’s still significantly easier than DIA.

The rental car counters at SLC are still on-site as opposed to having to catch that shuttle to go to all of the offsite lots in Denver.

Then, you have to drive clear back across Denver only to get onto I70 often for multiple hours.

Colorado experience is definitely different than the Park City experience, both having pros/cons.

That said, there really isn’t much comparison when it comes to convenience/access. As someone mentioned, you can catch an Uber to PC for $40.

Rented a car a couple years ago in December. Didn’t need 4wd. Unless you just love to ski all damn day, you’re going to want to get back out and explore a bit.

Downtown Park City is great. A handful of good bars, good restaurants, and shops.

Same, it was one of the smoothest I’ve ever experienced. Walked out picked out the car and drove off.

The walk to the cars is just three or four minutes

I love skiing in Colorado but the general consensus I’ve seen is that Utah is considered better for skiing, especially for people flying in.

We did Colorado a couple of years ago. We enjoyed it but I've never been to Utah.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Car rental for us the many times we've flown into SLC has been very convenient.

The public transportation in SLC is excellent. It's not Chicago good, but it's good. They will shuttle to both Park City and Snowbird from SLC. I've never done it, but my kid has. It's more convenient and easier to rent a car, but that's coming from my 20 something so take it for what that's worth.
