Going to Punta Cana next May, leaving on a Monday out of New Orleans. The only airline that is flying out that day is Copa airlines and it has a stop in Panama City, Panama with a 4 hour layover. I do not want to waste an entire day of traveling. Do you think any other airlines will offer flights later on? Thanks in advance.

Copa is the only airline flying out of New Orleans on a Monday in May next year??

Actually American Airlines is the only other airline that flys out that day for $200 more. And it will get me there 4 hours earlier with a stop in Miami. But I have 6 people in my party and not sure if it is worth it. Just wondering if Delta or other airlines might offer other flights later on.

Just curious how it came to be that you booked the day you had to leave and then ended up with the bad flight options?

Flight schedules aren't set at all for next may so i would definitely hold off a few months to book until the schedules get more set. Delta, american and jetblue should be your main options once they get set

Actually, you have quite a few better options here. I'll list some.
MSY-MIA-PUJ - American offers the most nonstop departures to get you to Punta Cana. There is even a PM flight from MIA.
MSY-IAH-PUJ - United. This is the option that will get you on your way the fastest, if you want to leave MSY in the early AM. You can connect at IAH, and be wheels up, on the way to PUJ at around 9:30 AM.
MSY-FLL-PUJ - Most airline options, but least amount of flight options, per airline. Jetblue, Spirit, and Southwest as of (11/17) all offer onestop connections from MSY to PUJ, through Ft. Lauderdale-FLL.
Eta-Keep in mind that this is going by TODAY'S schedule, not May 2018. Also, option #3 would be a SINGLE flight connection opportunity, if going by summer/2017 flight schedules.

That's 10 months away. Wait until 2018 to look. Last month I booked a non stop flight to DR about 2 weeks prior and had no problem. However, I flew out of Houston not NOLA. But you could still get to Houston fairly easily and not spend hours in Panama City

Thanks for typing those options out, was not in the mood when i first responded . Other options for OP will be on southwest through i think atl, chicago midway (way out of the way), or baltimore or American through Charlotte. Good call about the flights through fll being once a day, that would make me hesitant to book in comparison to flying through miami or atlanta with multiple flights. Granted if it was on jetblue i'd still probably take that risk.
On the way back from the dominican, i would try to find an airport that has good, quick customs and immigration. I have heard nightmares about miami and got through atlanta in about 45 minutes at my fastest time. Anyone have thoughts/experiences on Charlotte, Houston, or Ft. Lauderdale customs?

Houston is usually ridiculously busy.

I loathe Miami, even with Global Entry. Houston (I go through here more than anywhere) is not bad with GE but can be bad without. I think I would take it over Miami though. Charlotte wasn't busy at all when I went through, but that was 2 years ago.

Mobile Passport has been enough to get me through Houston quickly the past couple times.

I flew that same flight to Punta Cana through Copa and it was a really nice flight. Full meals on each flight.

Copa is one of the best Latin American airlines.
