We save our old underwear and take them. When we are done with them, we throw them away. Don't have to lug dirty drawers home and frees up a little space.

For a 2 week trip, you should be able to get by with a 45-50L backpack (maybe even smaller). I usually bring 4-5 pairs of socks and underwear. For the socks, bring wool (or any material the dries easily) and for underwear, I bring biker shorts or any fast drying type of material. If you are staying anywhere for more than a day, you can wash your dirty cloths and reuse. I bring 3-4 dry fit shirts and a nice button up. Bring one pair of jeans/slacks and a couple pair of shorts.

Unless you're going to the beach, you're not going to see very many shorts on adults who are non-tourists in most European city centers. If you're hiking, doing active sports, at the seaside, yes.

My boss told me he does this and I thought it was a great idea. This is something I'll be doing in the future.
