Really considering going to NYC this December for the first time and wanted to know how much cash y’all would recommend bringing & the top things to do & see? Staying about 4-5 days max.

Why would you carry cash?
NYC can be done on a budget or on a splurge. What kinda things you planning to do?

What are your interests? That would help.

You can do a splurge trip and visit restaurants like momofuku or hakkasan or you can do it on a budge and eat from food carts

Are you into history? Ellis island is great.

Into art? Don't miss the Met.

In December, definitely go see Rockefeller Center and the tree if you've never been. Time it so you're not there on a weekend, gets very crowded

See the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall. My wife loves going out at night and seeing the storefronts on 5th Avenue. We were there 12/17-12/23 and it was fantastic. Bring more money than you think you will need. Or have it in your account although we were hacked last week in Destin and the vacation account wiped out. I am thinking cash may be better.

FIFY. No need to carry cash or worry about someone getting YOUR money. Let the card company worry about someone stealing their money.

OP. We went last year at Christmas and really enjoyed it. Rockefellar, ice skating in Central Park, window displays, boat tour, Bryant Park, etc.

How was your account hacked?

Definitely a lot of sight seeing and restaurants for sure. Pretty much the most I can in a 4-5 day period

We had dinner at AJ’s and the next day were declined for dinner at another’s place. AJ’s was the only place the card was used when we got to town. We did not use it on the way down. No 100% proof but a pretty good idea. Hacked may not be the right term, stolen may be more accurate.

Seriously, what is the purpose of carrying cash? It's not a foreign land - credit cards will suffice just fine.

What do you like to do? Eat? Drink? History stuff? Some specifics would help.

NYC really is magical during the holidays. The last time we went in December, we got lucky and it snowed. My little niece was in a winter wonderland. Definitely see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show, ice skate at Rockefeller Plaza, check out the awesome window displays in the department stores, take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the park.

Did this 2 years ago, great time.

My tip, avoid Times Square Thursday thru Saturday.

Bryant Park is awesome

More Museums on Manhattan than anywhere else in the World.

Make Reservations to at least one nice Restaurant.

People watching in Rockefeller Plaza is wonderful.

Wake early and hit a local Coffee Shop
