I am planning a trip with my wife to New Orleans in January, and I am thinking of booking at either Maison de la Luz or Hotel Peter & Paul. Any strong recommendations one way or the other?

I am also open to other suggestions, but those were just the two that peaked my interest the most.

I would book wherever you have points. If you don’t have points, book in JP and forget Orleans. Orleans parish is actively trying to shut down.

Check out the Hotel Chloe on St Charles. New boutique hotel that has been getting positive reviews.

Stupid, terrible advice. Obviously the city isn’t as fun as when everything is open, but you can still have a great time. What the hell is there to do in JP? Honestly their restrictions are just as tight as Orleans.

OP, I haven’t stayed at either, but the bigger question is what else do you plan to do? Maison is around more but Peter and Paul is more trendy.

We realize that things will be different, but we are really just looking to get away and relax and eat some good food.

Open to any suggestions of things to do. I haven’t been to New Orleans in a long time and my wife has never been. I appreciate the feedback!

What are you looking to do?

I like staying at the Hyatt as it’s super easy to get in and out of. Stayed at the WWII hotel at the end of last year and it’s cool if you are looking at going to the museum.

Don’t stay in Jefferson Parish. That’s a dumb idea.

And walk around Royal in the FQ so your wife can see stuff there...but don’t eat there unless you’re eating at Revolution or something.

I second staying at the Hyatt and shopping on Royal (art galleries and antique shops).

We did a staycation for my wife's birthday a few weeks ago. This will be a little different for you if you are spending a full weekend, but our schedule was:

-Coffee and breakfast at French Truck (they have better options for breakfast, but we live close to one)
-Went look at some antique/furniture stores (again probably doesn't matter to you)
-Drove down to the Quarter and went walk around Royal Street and Jackson Square
-Late lunch at the Elysian
-Checked into our room at the Ace, and went grab drinks on the roof. Too cold to swim, but the rooftop bar still has great drinks
-Dinner at Herbsaint

You can still have a fun, full day in NOLA even with the restrictions, only thing that you can't really do is have a couple drinks after dinner.

In the past few months have stayed at the Ace and the Chloe.
I would recommend both and tailor your trip as to which area of town you'd be doing more activities in (warehouse/downtown v uptown). Uptown seemed way more active and fun than downtown this past weekend.

Chloe was extremely nice, easy to have drinks at, rooms were fantastic and it's close to most things uptown. Pricey though, Ace definitely more affordable and can be had with Chase points.

Avoid the NOPSI. Stayed there pre-Covid, and the customer service at check-in was very sub-par.
