Has anyone taken the ferry from Dauphin Island to Ft Morgan? Is it worth the time/milage saved vs driving around the bay?

It's not really a time saver
It may get you out of a little bit of traffic
but going all the way to the end of that road and assuming the ferry is not too crowded it takes just as long

Yes, the thought did cross my mind that there would be a chance of not getting on. That would suck after driving all the down there. Thanks

time savings if you are staying somewhere on ft morgan. it is a nice little break though. Get there early, it can fill up and nothing sucks worse than being one of those first cars that cant fit on the boat

Beach Express from I-10 really saves so much time, then just turn right at the very last road before the toll bridge

Only worth it with kids if you want them to enjoy it and see some dolphins..other than that, waste of time. Especially with Expressways etc...

Took it a few years ago. Definitely didn't save me any time however the kids loved it!

I would only do it as an "experience". We did it one day when the weather was nice, and it was really cool. Got some great photos of pelicans.

There was an ancient work ship plowing along in the bay, and the pelicans were swarming around its backwash to grab fish that got churned up. There were pelicans flying in like bats out of hell from every direction to join the buffet.

I've taken it several times on our way to Orange Beach. The kids like the boat ride and it gives you a chance to stretch your legs. We have a tradition that on the first day that we're down there, we fry fish and shrimp. I've picked up some really nice shrimp on the way to the ferry before. It makes for a great evening because after driving most of the day, I'm ready for a good supper and a cold beer.

It is a fun scenic little trip and during peak season they run two ferries.

We used to take it when we stayed at Plantation Condos or Beach Club back in the day.

My mom used to work at the elementary school in Bayou La Batre...instead of normal teacher gifts like gift cards or flowers, she'd get shrimp.
