Marriott points + Skiing

Thinking about using some of my Marriott points on a ski trip. I've only stayed in VRBO style places when booking a ski trip; has anyone ever stayed at a Marriott for a trip like this? If so, recommendations for Colorado? Thanks!

Vail and Aspen have Marriott properties. Great skiing at both.
ETA: Marriott just opened a W in Aspen where SkyBar used to be.

Tell the board more and we can help more. Are you going solo, as a couple, or as a family? What's the level of skiing experience? What other things are important to you on a vacation, such as nightlife?

Personal level of skiing is very seasoned, probably 10-15 trips, been skiing for 20+ years.
Would be a family trip, so definitely need some easier slopes as options, other activities besides just the mountains, etc...
Kids will be with us ranging from 8-14.
Thanks!

Also, forgot to add, distance to mountain is important as I’d prefer to not walk miles with kids, gear, etc

Well if you’ve done 10-15 trips and are so seasoned why are you asking us?

Breck has a Marriott property.

Have you searched Marriott Homes & Villas for your destination? You can use points on those also.

The Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch is the best Marriott ski property in Colorado by far. However, they just raised their point total to 400,000 from 280,000 for a five night stay during peak ski season.
It has everything. Ski rentals, ski concierge, lift tickets, etc. It’s in the Beaver Creek area, and there is a lift steps from the hotel. Very family friendly. Great music. Special place to spend holidays with family.

I once skied down to that hotel looking for some lunch. Once I saw the burger was $35 I got back in my skis and left

Ha! Yes. It is really expensive. They now even have a seafood bar. It’s crazy. Rooms can sometimes run $1000-$2000 a night. I could never afford or justify paying that. However, it’s a great way to maximize your Marriott points. You only have to pay around $100 a night for valet parking and resort fees. (whatever those are)
Also, you want to book at least five nights since the fifth night is “free” when you book four nights with points.

Then I am going to put in a recommendation for the Sheraton Steamboat. I've never been, but I've heard Steamboat described as ideal for families, the Sheraton is ski-in-ski-out, and you can get a two bedroom suite for 65,000 Marriott points per night.

This is the right answer if you are points rich. Little bummed they bumped it up to 400,000 from 280,000 as it was in previous years.
great location, has everything. outside bar is nice to sit at and people watch.
I'd recommend the Westin in Avon. Has a lift that connects up to the mountain or a free shuttle that takes you up. nightly music, solid restaurant, etc.

1) Because I’ve ne we done so with my family
2) Because as the TITLE says, I’m trying to use Marriott points for my stay and I’ve done 0 trips in this manner

I wonder if they’ll adjust back to 280,000 being the circumstances we’re in with this pandemic.
Going to look into it, as well as the Sheraton Steamboat suggestion and the Avon one as well.
Does Avon have a mountain? Never been or heard of it. Mainly skied Breck & Winter Park.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

You've already got a couple good recommendations from others. I'll add that Breckenridge does have a couple Marriott properties in town if you want to go there. I don't think they are ski in / ski out, although they are right off Main St.
Two others - Lake Tahoe and Park City, UT. It's been about 6 years, but I stayed at the Grand Residences by Marriott at the base of the gondola at Heavenly in Lake Tahoe and it was great. The location was unbeatable. There's also a Marriott property right in the middle of town / Main St in Park City and it's easy to get to the unique little town lift that takes you up the mountain. Stayed at this property two seasons ago and I plan to go back in the next couple years.

The first time I went in the building I paused before walking with ski boots on their nice rugs until I noticed everyone else walking with their boots. $20 cookie and a coke.
The Westin in Avon is nice. The gondola takes you to the lift which drops you off at the Ritz; its too long to make a stop for lunch, IMO.
I can’t wait for ski season!
