Maine bays/harbors to stay at
What are some good Bays/Harbors to stay at in Maine. I'm trying to get a waterfront place for 2 couples. (no kids)

We will be going in early June.

Kennebunkport or Rockport would be good spots to look at.

Lots of places up and down the coast, depending on where you want to stay. Do you want to be near Portland or do you want to do Acadia? If you want to be near Portland, take a look at Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth. Great place on the water with a trail down to the state park beach. As an added benefit, it is a 15 minute drive to downtown Portland.

Another option would be Boothbay Habor.

We stayed in Ogunquit, really beautiful. We drove over to Kennebunkport and it was equally as beautiful. We loved that trip.

Castine ... check it out. Tenants harbor (for lobster) and Camden are nice too

I have only been to one and that is Bar Harbor, but I highly recommend it. The town is nice and the Acadia National Park is beautiful.

Another vote for Bar Harbor.

Although on the water might be asking too much there.

I've only been once. We stayed in Bar Harbor 4 nights and Camden one. They are both tourist stops, don't mean that in a negative way. They have a lot of shops, restaurants, and things to do, especially BH with ANP nearby. We enjoyed both.

We talked to some folks at BH and they were staying in Stonington and they recommended it. Google it I guess. It is on an island.

The link is from a TB discussion from last year about Portland but there are several comments about Maine in general. Boothbay was recommended; has links to pictures.

BH and Camden both get cruise ships but one is not there all the time. We were walking around Camden trying to decide where to eat and asked a local person; they recommended Rockport. Which is not that far but we were tired of driving and ate in Camden and it was good.

This a Camden from nearby Mount Battle which is in Camden Hills State Park.

Pretty good hike up the mountain to get that view (unless you cheat and drive up there).

We've stayed in Kennebunkport twice.
We've been able to do everything from there. Plus you are close to some of the Boston coastal towns.

If you want to spend a lot of time in Acadia National Park I would probably stay in Portland or beyond, it would be a closer trip. Of course, Bar Harbor is practically Acadia National Park.

Acadia is not a day trip from Portland. I you want to do Acadia, you need to stay much further up the coast in Bar Harbor or one of the other towns. Even from Camden, Acadia is a pretty long drive and summer traffic could make it worse.

We stayed at Ocean Gate Resort on Southport Island (Boothbay Harbor) the last week of August, 2018. Really enjoyed the place but we mainly used it as home base for trips elsewhere. Going to Portland and Freeport (L L Bean flagship location) was pretty convenient; trips to Bangor (highly recommend the Stephen King tour if you're a fan) and Arcadia National Park (Bar Harbor) took hours.

We cheated. Not that long of a drive but steep.

Why do you think that? Seems like the only advantage Camden has is it is closer to other places and can be used as a base. Just wondering what I'm missing.

Boothbay is fantastic.

I did not care for bar harbour—it was very crowded and touristy with cruise ships in and out all day.

Portland is amazing—I’d spend several days there if you like to eat and drink

Did you spend much time in Acadia or just in Bar Harbor?
