Looking for whitewater recs - Ocoee River

The gf and I will be in the Chattanooga area for Labor Day, looking to go whitewater rafting. I went 15 years ago on the Ocoee and had a great time. Just wondering if anyone had any outfitters they recommend. We are pretty adventurous, so we don't mind big rapids and would also like to do a little hiking in that area.

Any of the big ones over there are about the same. Just pick one and make a reservation. If available, do the upper and lower sections.

This is exactly what I would say. I've been three times and don't remember what outfit for any. Even used a groupon once and it was fine.

Did the '96 Olympic run on the Ocoee a few years back.
That was a blast.
That was a blast.

If you have time, try the Chattooga - a much longer trip with more rapids. Great scenic river on the GA/SC border in the foothills.

I like the nantahala better only because you can do it in a single. Sit on top kayak, or a fun boat (duckie). Been a while since I've been on the ocoee, but from what i can remember, I don't think I'd try that in one those singles.

If you want an easy drift with a few small rapids in a sit on top or funyak, you can do that not far from Ocoee. Hiwassee Outfitters can get you setup with that on the Hiwassee for about $30 a person. Its a few hour drift, nice and relaxing.
I occasionally take my sit on top over there and fish it too, it's fun trout fishing. $10 if you bring your own yak and want them to carry you and your yak to the start from their place.

That upper section can be brutal if the river is up. One time I went it was around 2700 CFS and it was intense. Forget which rapid we capsized on. Broken Nose I think it was.

Check groupon. They have a lot of deals for that right now at Ocoee

Just be aware that this is very cold water year round.

We do upper and lower with wildwater. We also do the hiwassee as someone else mentioned. Fun stuff.

We've used Cascade several times and had a blast. Bunch of hipster types that kept it fun. Can't wait to go back.
