Serious question. Assume it’s a company that owns some AirBnB type properties? Are they good places to stay? Or do I need to be spending a couple hundred extra to stay at an actual hotel?

Stayed at one in Austin once. It was an on-campus apartment complex and some of the units were rented out via Airbnb. The unit was fine. 2 beds 2 baths and a small kitchen. Guess it depends what you’re looking for.

Found this ::

Sonder manages 5,000 apartments in 35 cities around the world as of February 2021. As of 2019, Sonder was the largest professional host on the lodging website Airbnb. Although it has been described as a competitor to Airbnb, Sonder leases and manages its own rentals, unlike Airbnb, which is a marketplace.

New Orleans is one of the places that I recommend staying in a hotel versus an AirBnB if you aren't very familiar with the neighborhoods, boundaries to stay within, etc...

Agreed. Some of my idiot friends rented a place in a rotten area a few years ago.

Sonder has some very nice properties in New Orleans. A number of them were built to be apartments but the downtown residential rental market didn’t support the units and/or it is more lucrative to operate the buildings as short term rentals with sonder. The Factor’s row building in the CBD is an example.

There are three new hotels in the city - four seasons, the virgin, st Vincent’s that you might want to look at as well.

I’m familiar. We got married there and used to go down twice a year or so, but haven’t been in a while and I start looking and see like 10 Sonder options and was like wtf is this… Anyway, thanks everyone. Probably just going to go the hotel route to guarantee I know where I’m at, parking, etc.

Be mindful of the parking situation as many of the downtown hotels have no parking and valet the cars blocks away. Have heard many stories of people getting red light / speeding camera tickets in the mail after they return home, and even a liability issue recently involving a valet driver hitting a pedestrian in a hotel guests car. Most of the hotels contract third party companies and that can become a nightmare.
