My company is moving to KC and I will need to make a decision on whether to take the buyout/retention package or make the move with the company with a bump in pay. It will be close to downtown on he Kansas side.

Unless you dont want to enjoy your time there, stay as far from that as possible. Horrible people over there.

The business will be in the vicinity of South 7th and Kansas Ave

very safe, but snobby people who are snobby to anyone who is not pro-ku. North kc is developing pretty quickly, and also very safe.

As a general rule I don't like people anyway so no worries there. I don't want to commute very far if I don't have to, I am three miles from work where I am now and it's great.

Checks out. It's also easy to find Kansans running down Missouri. I grew up on the Missouri side and most of my family lives in Overland park now. And I've chosen to live elsewhere. Kansas City is a great place to raise kids and the people are friendly (on either side) but I don't find much else there to interest me. I would be careful near downtown on the KS side. My niece is going to the KU medical school which is not a particularly safe area but her apartment has tight security. If you choose to live near work you need to be somewhat careful. My brother works in that area too and lives in Overland Park for the schools and safety.

It’s a great place to live. Legit food and beverage scene. Suburbs are a little pablum for my tastes, but there is nothing wrong with KC. I would make the move.

We moved here from Texas last year due to a promotion for wife with her company. The only thing we don't like about it is that we aren't near family, getting used to winter, state income tax now, lack of good Mexican food.

There is basically little traffic compared to what we had in Houston. The people here are great, but may take a while to warm up to you, I think that is a midwest thing.

There are some areas to avoid, but every city has that.

The BBQ is amazing. Royals and Chiefs games are great to go to. Lots of great restaurants and bars.

We live in Leawood near the state line. We can basically be anywhere in the kc area in 20-30 min.

Not sure where you are now, but you might want to come visit before making final decision.

I moved here last year and live near the Plaza and Midtown in Hyde Park. BBQ is legit. Absolutely no good Louisiana food. The Chiefs and Royals fans are awesome...really support the team. The “traffic” here is almost non-existent. City was designed well and easy to navigate. If you live north of the river, people here think you live in Egypt. It’s a short drive. I am 10 minutes from downtown. There are several pockets of entertainment districts, Plaza, Westport, Power and Light. I like it here, but the last week has been brutally cold.

I live in Lawrence, so a little outside, but have plenty of connections and work in the area. I would say anybody giving KC a bad portrayal is in the minority. Overall it seems to be a great place to work and live. Certainly a big city with a small town feel. Very suburban. You would likely live in OP, Lenexa, Olathe, or Piper. There seems to be a lot of innovation and technology coming to the KC area although it’s dominated by Sprint, Cerner, and Amazons DC.

Housing is going to be very affordable. Public schooling is great. Traffic is heavy during peak times, but nowhere near the likes of Dallas, Houston, etc. Downtown has a lot going on with Power and Light, River Market, and Westport. You get good music and sports with the Sprint Center, Chiefs, and Royals. Social activities certainly won’t be lacking. Good food and culture scene too with a lot of maker spaces and start up joints.

Winter can be brutal. We were down to -11 last week, but of course it’s back to 50 this week. If you like to hunt or fish, there is a lot within an hour in both the KC/MO direction, but nothing like the SE.
