Kaanapali, HI Resorts or Hotels
Posted by CaptainJ47 on 5/21/20 at 1:36 pm00
Hey- finalizing booking a trip for the family me, wife (no pics), 19 and 17 year olds to Hawaii. I think I have settled on Kaanapali as the part of Maui for 4 days of the trip. Ultimately this will be our last family trip before being official empty nesters. We are looking for somewhere that has a nice beach/water, pool/hot tub, and access to food and beverages. Food and beverages don’t have to be onsite but if not, walking is preferred.
Has anyone stayed in this area and if so do you have any positive or negative experiences? We will also be going to Kauai and I am inclined to stay at a resort either in Princeville or Poipu.
Thanks!

When are you looking to go? Hawaii was writing citations to tourists last week I think.

Originally June but bumped to later in July. I have ample flexibility with Delta as they will extend it out to September with no change fee or fare difference. I am certainly monitoring the situation. It doesn’t always look good but if it doesn’t happen I will find a backup plan.

I looked at the Westin. I am a marriott ambassador so figure now may be the time to play it up. Just wasn’t sold on the resort.

The Hyatt, Westin, Sheraton, Kaanapali Beach Club etc are all excellent
You are close to Lahaina so you have everything you need
Lahaina Beach Resort is a little gem where you can walk into town
Have fun make sure you go to Molokini Crater and Road to Hana

The Maui Hyatt has a solid pool and grotto but really that whole stretch that is connected by a beach walkway has many great properties. I'd get one of the condo ones with a kitchen and two bedrooms. Great views in that area, no matter which one you choose.
As for Kauai I have stayed at The Grand Hyatt twice. The pools are world class and I love that property. But the Princeville St Regis is very nice and has pretty decent snorkeling on a reef off the hotel and amazing views. Of the two, I recommend the Grand Hyatt. But you really can't lose.

Thanks Pimp. The St Regis is under a massive renovation. Hearing about the pools at the Grand Hyatt has me leaning that way.

We stayed at Honua Kai a couple of years ago. Great spot good beaches and restaurants.

The pools are AMAZING . Also the pool staff and pool food is really good. If you walk down to the beach and turn left towards the golF course you can take a nice hike along trails on the cliffs. If you keep going for a half hour or so you get to a really nice secluded beach. Also, they have a great group exercise/ morning workout if that’s your thing. I absolutely love the Kauai Grand Hyatt. Also there is fairly decent snorkeling within walking distance and a little snorkel shop.

I would check out the Fairmont Kea Lani - Down in southern part of Maui but quieter there and they are all suites or you can do the villas which is less than two rooms - Love it there

Bamatiger- how do you feel the south part of Maui is positioned for two teenagers?

10 min drive to the tourist shops otherwise that area is quiet.
My favorite beach, Makena, is right there.
Turtle Town/snorkeling is a few minutes away.
