What is your opinion? I've never had an issue yet and I've purchased it a lot

I'm wondering about this too. I booked a cruise and didn't get the insurance, but have until July to decide on it.
I've cleared the time off with work so that doesn't bother me, but I've got quite old parents and I worry that something might happen with them leading up to the cruise that screws me up.

I think so. If you need it, you will be glad. We were going on a cruise out of San Juan. A hurricane was going to hit, so in order to get there, we had to leave a day early before the airport got shut down. Since it was due to weather, we got our flights changed and a hotel paid for on our insurance. Turned out the hurricane skirted by and we got a free day in San Juan.

get the chase sapphire reserve instead.

includes most of what you are going to buy. obviously need to pay for the trip with it.

It depends on what you want it to cover. Like health insurance, not all policies cover the same thing and use the same criteria for payouts so read the fine print.

Also, check the credit cards you use and what they protect. Do you have worldwide emergnecy healthcare (including transfers to an in network facility) should you need to be hospitalized, etc?

Obviously, the more protected you are with other insurances, credit cards, what airline you book with and their refund/transfer policy, what is the refund/transfer policy of what your booking, etc it all plays a factor.

Ive only purchased an insurance policy once because I booked a non refundable deposit trip that saved me about $500 and the policy was only about $50 and I can cancel for any reason up to 14 days from day of travel and get a 100$ refund.

Cruises, europe, far east, disney, hawaii, etc. all done with no additional policy outside of credit cards and flying airlines with good refund/transfer policies.

I've never purchased it for a cruise.

I do purchase international health insurance bc it's only $25 per person or less. It helps cover you getting medical care abroad and getting you back to the States if something happens.

I use safetrip.com by United Health. You can also upgrade to buy trip insurance, but you would need to cover each cabin that has adults staying in it.

I have never purchased it in my life and have never needed it. When traveling, I always use a credit card that has built in travel insurance and focus on cancellation rules if renting a house/condo.

Generally speaking no, it's largely a scam because there is a ton of fine print. Also you should never get insurance for something you can afford on your own because long term it doesn't work out financially.

How many actual reservations did you make that are actually no refund if canceled or changed? Airlines will generally worst case scenario allow you to change your tickets to later in the year unless you specifically purchase no refund fares. Hotels same thing unless you specifically purchase the 'no refund rates'.

They don't cover pre existing health conditions, only new conditions. My father in law purchased health insurance for our trip to London this past year and we went to the hospital for my daughters ear infection and care was free lol.

So in reality when you include what is actually covered compared to what you pay which is generally 7% of your trip cost then you aren't saving any actual money for most trips even if you use it.

My in laws had to use it when they traveled for my wedding. Mother in law got really sick on the flight (she has vertigo issues). They had to stay at a hotel in Houston(where they had a layover) until she was well enough 2 days later to fly to Florida for our wedding (they arrived a few hours before the ceremony). Had to take a taxi to an urgent care while in houston to get meds so she could fly on a plane again.

They lost out on 2 days of the condo they had rented as well as fees for changing their flight, etc. They had to provide a bunch of receipts and paperwork....but the travel insurance fully reimbursed them for everything.
