How difficult to travel from LaGuardia to JFK and vis versa
I am trying to book a flight to Italy. I can save a ton of money if I take Southwestern from NO to LaGuardia, but the flight from NY to Italy (and return) are from JFK.

How much time would I need to save between flights o make sure I get to the gate on time?

Shuttle bus will run $15 and takes about an hour during peak traffic, but IIRC, it departs on the hour, so schedule might not work for you.

Taxi is a crapshoot; can be quick or slow, depending on the taxi line.

For an international departure, you need to be at JKF three hours prior to your flight. So be sure that your cheap SW flight will get you there at least 5 hours prior to allow for collecting luggage and getting over to JFK.

Sorry, but this is not what I'd want to do prior to an international departure. If your SW flight is delayed, your flight to Italy is toast.

ETA: check int'l flights from Newark--SW flies there, and you might find a price competitive option that avoids an airport transfer. Or fly into LGA the day before, spend a quick night in Brookly, fly out the next AM.

Would agree with OP that suggested the NYC Airporter, if time works for you.

I’m in the exact same situation

Got a hell of a deal from JFK to Munich but I live in Birmingham

My flight leaves NY at noon on a Monday so I used free SW flights to fly into LGA Sunday afternoon

Gonna look for a cheap hotel very near JFK

The first sentence is what I'd suggest to OP to do. Easier than worrying about making the connection same day. Anywhere along the airtrain route for a hotel would be good, can get to jfk very quick

I made a mistake a couple of years ago and had Uber take me to jfk.... Looked at my eboarding pass to tell him which gate and oh shite... My flight is at laguardia... We made it there in 30 minutes and made my flight easily. Cost me $70 total which all things considered ain't bad.

You will need an hour to get from LGA-JFK. There are shuttle buses and obviously a taxi will get you there. It is fairly common to change airports you just need enough time to do so.

I wouldn't recommend a shuttle bus if you're in a time crunch. Flying in day before is only way I'd feel good about this scenario.

While not NYC, I once flew into Midway and out of O'Hare due to massively lower price on the connecting flight. I was a student and had no money, so I took the orange line train to downtown Chicago and then took the blue line out to O'Hare. I had a 5 hour layover and about 3 of that was traveling between the two airports and getting checked in. Would not do again unless you are a broke student.

Gonna 2nd doing this. And really factor in the difference in price. I planned to do this for an intentional trip, but realized the 2 days + hotel cost + transportation cost doesn't make it worth it. Worth the extra $200-$300 to just go the MSY the entire way.

Like someone else said, if your first flight is delayed/canceled, or you hit traffic, or any other reason you miss you 2nd flight.. you're fricked. It isn't one itinerary so you get nothing refunded.
