Just got a free trip but they booked it on Spirit Airlines. Curious what to expect. Already know about luggage fees. Those have been paid. Curious about leg room and being on board that plane.

It’s definintely a no frills airline. If you want more legroom, a carry on, or a snack or drink, you’re going to pay for it. Also the other passengers are what you would expect for a ultra-low fare airline. It will get you from point a to point b so for a free flight it isn’t terrible.

Not bad for a short flight and a weekend trip. Anything over an hour flight, I wouldn't do it.

I flew to Vegas on Spirit. Just suck it up. It's a flight. Buy some drinks and forget it happened.

Yeah it sucks but it'll get you there. I bought a backpack that fits the max size allowed for free and it has enough room for weekend trips. Bring snacks with you, fill up a water bottle at the airport past security and you're officially flying the cheap skies.

I got a free trip but they booked me on a Spirit flight. I was able to upgrade to the big seats up front. Now I feel somewhat better. I'll pack my own alcohol.

I like Spirit for direct flights under 2.5 hours.
Some routes are dirt cheap.

MSY to ORD $80 RT!
Of course then you pay $50 each way for a bag

It's pretty bad. I did the Vegas trip from New Orleans. Plenty of fees, leg room minimal, shitty service. Would not pay for it again but if it's free, I could probably suck it up.

Just have a plan for when your flight is inevitably delayed or canceled. They do that often and they don’t care. They won’t rebook you on another airline or anything. So if your trip is a little more flexible that is good.

Spirit isn't that bad, but you just need to understand what it is ahead of time. It doesn't have a great track record of on-time arrival/departures, has shorter legroom than the major airlines, and you will pay for both bags and seats.

In some instances, it might make sense to go the major airline route. I tend to do this on longer trips (i.e. ORD -> LAX, ORD -> SFO), but I find Spirit, sometimes, cheaper on shorter trips (~1 hour) to MSP.

I got a $98 round trip non-stop from Cleveland to San Diego. Got drunk on the plane and laughed about how it was a hard seat. I really laughed at the $750 connecting flight for a round trip that Southwest had. I had to buy 5 seats total and I saved like $3,000. It let me buy some super cool beach front hotels.

I just read an article saying Spirit had improved more than any other airline in 2017 for on time departures and arrivals ahead of several major airlines. They got a new CEO who made several changes. So hopefully that helps. Otherwise you'll see me on the news.

pay for the upgrade, there should be plenty of seats left as the culcha you'll be flying with doesn't like to pay for it.

I’d rather walk then fly with Spirit. It was uncomfortable and it felt like I was in the waiting room at a low income area hospital. It gets the job done but I’m a believer that things that make life more comfortable are the only thing worth spending big money on.

My entire trip is free. I had no choice. I'd never pay for a Spirit flight by choice. It was booked for me because every other flight was almost $500.
