Last day to decide for the current promotion of buying 80K points at 2:1 for $800 for 160,000 points total. What say you travel pros? Is this a decent deal to bank points for later use or do you mainly buy points just to reach what is needed for a particular vacation plan?

The best use of Hilton Honors points is when the paid rates are through the roof, such as the Waldorf Astoria Maldives (effectively $600 per night) or at some of those 5,000/10,000 points or lower cat properties that have high paid rates.

Hilton Honors sells points several times a year at a 100% bonus or 50% off. The price of a point purchased during these sales is always 0.5 cents each

I've never bought points, but every travel/points blogger will tell you to never buy points unless you have a specific redemeption in mind and the points are more economical than the cash.

I’m looking to book a Hampton Inn and Suites. $16 extra dollars for double points. Sounds like a great deal, right?

Diamond gets double points without paying extra. If you’re not Diamond then it’s a good deal.
