Hiking clothes for Banff
Going to Banff and Jasper in a month and I’m looking for some hiking pants.... anybody have any brands they recommend?

I've had the best luck with the Patagonia and Outdoor Research brands in the outdoor clothing market. Royal Robbins also makes some good hiking pants.

I wore some Mountain Khakis twill pants in the early morning and at night. Id end up switching to shorts in the afternoons.

Maybe get some of those dad pants that you can transform into shorts

All the top brands are comparable when talking about their basic clothes. Find what you like and go with it.

I wear Mountain Hardwear or Prana but I do it because of a steep discount I get.

Cotton is the enemy fyi so don't wear any on serious hikes.

Convertible pants are awesome but not all created equal. Many of them you still have to take your boot off. At least me and my 13's do

You won’t need pants in a month. What’s your level of hiking? Shoes will make a huge difference.

Calgary has stores like the MEC, and Atmosphere. They are super helpful and affordable....and are across the street from each other.

Went to torres del paine a few months back. Bought some columbia pants, when they got in I immediately returned them. Bought some PrAna pants off amazon, million times better. Awesome pants, recommended.

This isn’t necessarily true across the board. We hiked Banff and Jasper 5 years ago in late July. It can get cool/cold depending on where you go and the weather. Among others we hiked Bow Falls and Wilcox Pass. For both we started out in the mornings with beanie caps, jackets (rain shell for bow falls and fleece for Wilcox), and a long sleeve dri-fit type shirt. We were very comfortable in this. While we did have convertible pants, we left our legs on for all of the hikes in Banff/Jasper.

OP... where all are you hiking? We want to go back desperately, such an awesome place.

Nah, if you're starting in the early morning it can be high 30s, low 40s, even in the "summer" months

I second Prana. Specifically the stretch Zions. They've pretty much replaced all other pants for fieldwork or hiking.
