We have a flight from Florence into London-Lutin Airport that lands at 1 PM, and then our flight from Heathrow back to the US leaves at 1 PM the next day. Any suggestions on what to do for that day? We were thinking of hitting a smaller town, maybe St. Albans, as opposed to tracking back into London. Anything scenic/countryside would be a plus.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. TIA.

I had an 8 hour layover in London and did Windsor Castle. It was well worth going to. There could be big crowds if going during a busy season.

Downtown london is like a big version of Boston. See if you can get outside and see the small towns...it's like a venture back in time with homes with thatched roofs, 1-lane roads, etc. Very cool.

Henley is nice, Wokingham, wtc.

Have you figured out where you are spending the night and how you are getting from one airport to the other? They are pretty far apart and opposite parts of the city? Cab? The reason I say that is your transportation options would help give you suggestions on what to do?

Have you ever been to London?

I would go do something like Windsor castle, walk around a small town, and enjoy the pub life personally. Soak in some culture and pub food. I wouldn't waste a bunch of time in transportation and do something that helps you get closer to your destination.

Windsor is a pretty nice town near Heathrow. I've only had lunch there but I could have stayed longer.

Personally, I would stay in Tooting which is a hip London burb on the Heathrow side of London. But really only because Ive never been to Tooting and it was just named one of the worlds best neighborhoods.

I've been to London, and we are spending the first few days of the trip there, so that's why we want something outside the city for this afternoon/night. We haven't decided on transportation yet, we were going to base it on the town whether train vs. cab.

I was looking into Windsor earlier and it looked like what we were looking for between the castle and the restaurants/pubs.

Zappa, thanks for the suggestions also, I'll look into those and compare, sounds like it fits what we are looking for.
