1. Inspiration point hike (if you’re up for it continue to Cascade Canyon for a long spectacular day hike).

2. Jenny Lake ferry or kayaking (inspiration point starts at Jenny Lake)

3. Phelps Lake jumping rock (might be too cold)

4. Snake river float trip

5. Oxbow bend at sunset

6. Take the tram at Teton Village

7. Eat breakfast at the bunnery then shop in Jackson Hole

8. Drive through Yellowstone while stopping at Yellowstone Falls and some geological features like grand prismatic.

I like the suggestion of staying in Big Sky, MT to visit Yellowstone. Great mountains all around.

We stayed even further north than that, but it was free :)

I live out here now, but I still remember my first trip into the park when I was six. The Tetons blew me away, but Yellowstone, it just didn’t seem as exciting.

I’m with Bayou.

I’d keep your plans open, and I suspect you’ll find yourself spending more time in down in the Tetons.

(And Jackson)

And come back the following summer to see Glacier!

It’s, it’s something else.

Jenny lake was an easy enjoyable hike. Be sure to drive the park early in morning and in the evening for best chance to see wildlife.

So after perusing this thread and preliminary research how about this...

6/5-6/15

6/5 Fly into SLC (free place to stay)
6/6-6/9 Jackson/Tetons
6/9-6/12 West Yellowstone
6/12-6/14 Big Sky
6/15 SLC

I guess my biggest questions are is West Yellowstone a good enough base to stay that long in? Looking at the map it looks like we could hit the Old Faithful area on the way up from Jackson.

Would it be better to go to Big Sky for a couple of days or head over and stay on the East side of Yellowstone for a couple of days instead?

I have most of the trip planned just trying to decide whiter or not to spend the 3 nights in a condo/apt in:

(1) Jackson in town by Snow King resort
(2) away from town in Wilson, Wy
(3) Further away from town in the Teton Village area.

1st world problems!!

We went the same time you are going. Drove from Chicago, did the Badlands, Mt. Rushomre, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Great time of year, not too crowded, still lots of 'babies' that time of year.

We stayed in MT near NE entrance:

we loved it. Had a Bison outside our cabin each morning. Log Cabin restaurant across the street has good breakfast.

That area makes you drive through Hayden Valley each day. Saw most of the wildlife there, grizzly sow and cub, a few black bears and cubs, a wolf and of course more Bison than you can shake a stick at.

did most of the touristy stuff in Yellowstone. Upper and Lower falls, Old Faithful and the geysers.

In GTNP, Jenny Lake is awesome.

We stayed at Lexington Hotel in Jackson. Very nice and you can walk everywhere.

We went into Teton Village, did horseback ride and took tram to top of Mountain. One of our favorite things. Still snow but you can walk around a bit up top. Get a waffle and a beer at Corbet's Cabin.

We wanted to do white water rafting on Snake River, but it was actually to high and fast, so my kids (12 and 16) were not allowed to go.

Snake River brewing in Jackson was awesome, loved the beer and food.

It was an awesome trip. Had not been since I was a kid, but I cannot wait to go back.

I will be happy to share more if you like.

Enjoy the trip, and remember, you don't have to do it all. That was my only problem, I felt like there was more to see and I found myself rushing instead of enjoying what was in front of me. did not take me long to just check myself and enjoy it.
