Don't have an itinerary as of yet. Any suggestions where to stay, where to go etc.? Going to be there Dec 1-4th. Just looking for cool stuff to do while only there a couple of days. Doesn't have to be touristy stuff. TIA

We enjoyed the Originals Farmers Market and the grove. They're right next to each other in West Hollywood.

I've been to LA like 6 times in the last 3 years.
The farmers market is pretty cool. Great spot for lunch.
I really like Venice beach. Very chill environment to walk around. Beach is there. Cool bars.
Santa Monica is more upscale. The Promenade has good shopping and bars. You can walk to the pier.
Hollywood boulevard is cool to see once. Go find the stars if famous people you like.
Griffith park observatory has a great view of the city.
Manhattan beach is another cool area further South.
Melrose Avenue in Hollywood is a really neat arts area. Lots of small galleries. Good spot to spend the afternoon.
Hollywood for the day: Beach morning, farmers market lunch, Melrose avenue afternoon, Hollywood Blvd evening, Griffith park at night.

If you like beer, definitely go out to Monkish. And across the street from them there's a lesser known place called Smog City that also puts out some really good stuff.

I spend almost all of my time in Santa Monica and Venice when I am in Los Angeles, but Monkish, Smog City, and Dudes' are all good breweries in Torrance, if you want to venture south a little bit.
Really liked walking Abbot Kinney and the Canals in Venice. Usually stay in the vicinity of Venice Ale House because I like the atmosphere a lot, but I could go without the Boardwalk.
Santa Monica is fine. The Promenade is busy, but there are a couple places on Ocean Ave that I like. Blue Plate Taco is eclectic and makes good margaritas. Water Grill is a bit more upscale, but very good seafood.

if you like to get outdoors, my wife and i hiked the Hollywood sign and it was awesome and a great workout
i love the grove farmers market area as well
Hollywood is cool to do once if you've never been. Go walk Rodeo Dr.
Santa Monica is great. Malbec is a great restaurant downtown

I’m LA born and raised, and the recommendations are pretty much spot on.
The Venice/Santa Monica area is IMO the best overall destination for tourists.
Do Hollywood if you must, but it’s a complete shite show. Venice beach and Melrose are better. Rodeo is cool if you want to shop or see expensive shite. The other beach communities like Malibu or manhattan beach are great too.

Warner Brothers Studio Tour was quite awesome. Definitely recommend it

Very good post. I agree with everything he suggested. All all very fun things to do in those areas. I would also throw in doing a studio tour as a suggestion. I did the Warner Bros. tour and I had a blast doing that one. You can do other ones like Universal Studios and Paramount as well, they are just as good as Warner Bros.

I agree with this.
Venice/Santa Monica are great for the first time visitor. Beverly Hills is pretty cool to check out, as are the Farmers Market and Grove there. And Hollywood is pretty much a disaster. But, it's a disaster that I think everyone should see. I did one of those open air bus tours that takes you all around and shows you homes of some famous actors. It was actually pretty cool. And you can wander into a Scientology auditing center or museum while you're there if you want a good chuckle
I'll throw in Koreatown too, but only if you're into Korean/Asian food and culture.
L.A. is a really great city for exploring different things
