A friend once told me the hottest chick in the bar one night was actually a dude. Luckily for him, the bartender was American and warned him moments before taking the shim home. Good luck!

You'll have every opportunity to bang hookers if that's your thing.

But make sure to crotch check that shite before anything.

I'm serious, they have some seriously good looking ladyboys

Befriend expats as much as you can. They can show you the ropes.

Don't ask for drugs, not even weed. How crazy Bangkok can be, drugs are super illegal. It's too risky for the potential benefit, and people will try to set you up.

The Sukhumvit area is some of the better partying in the city, with plenty of expats and foreigners. You won't feel out of place.

If you're not into partying they have some unbelievable temples all over the place. They're worth checking out regardless. Don't waste your whole trip partying if that's what you're going to do.

Tuk tuk's and the skytrain are probably the best modes of transportation. If you get in a taxi you could get stuck in a traffic standstill for hours. If you are taking a taxi, download the "Grab" app. It's just like Uber, but way cheaper. You can even request scooter pickup which can be quicker than a car.

If you're into shopping or clothes ,which I'm not really, but it's worth it to take advantage of the prices you get for some stuff over there. You'll be hard-pressed to find cheaper anywhere in the States.

Thai people are some of the nicest people I've ever seen. Don't be an arse.

Either go somewhere else in Thailand or get a personal driver/tour guide. Bangkok is ridiculously big and easy as hell to get lost. If you aren't there with a local you'll be wasting a lot of time trying to figure out what to do and where to go. I went out there with my buddy who lived there for 4 years with his driver and without them i would have been screwed.

And it's that easy to get a signal in the cities and countryside? That would be more impressive than many places in the US.

I've heard everything over there is really cheap, so seems like it would be worth it.

I used Uber in Bangkok without issue. The skytrain is pretty easy to manage and works just like mass transit here.

I had cell service on my island.

I assume you'd be OK in places like Chiang Mai as well, considering it's like the blogger capital of the world.

Like with Vietnam and Cambodia be careful about what you eat. It's not so much strange Asian bacteria or filth, it's more additives , preservatives and chemicals. Most people never have any problem but every once in a while I hear horror stories. A lot of time simple street food, and places where there are very few tourists are your best bet. Smile and follow local customs and partake of what is offered. Most importantly, do a trip report.

Did you read the sticky? There are a few detailed trip reviews with things to do, things to avoid, what to eat, etc.

Well, I've just decided to add two days there in October. May be a little wet. I'm looking forward to just hanging out since I've seen all the main super tourist places.

This time I'm there on a weekend they will run the ponies so I may take in a race. Last match of the Thai premier league is also an option.

If I could find folks playing sepak takraw that would be cool to watch a bit.
