My wife and I did a four day weekend in the North Ozark mountain area near Jasper.
The cabin was only $500 for three nights and had ll the amenities we needed. Only brought our food and beverages.
We did some offroading in our Jeep and some hiking.
This was a 5 mile offroad trail which had a river to cross (Hurricane Creek) and a water fall that directly over the road!
We hiked 4 miles round trip to Hawksbill Crag. It was 39 degrees but we warmed up once we started hiking. There were several water falls on the way.
We made the short hike to Triple Falls the next day. The we drove down to the Buffalo River which my favorite part.
The last hike we did was a bit strenuous which my wife choose to do. Almost 5 miles round trip.
Overall it was an awesome trip. Hiked a total of 9.5 miles. Can't wait to go back in the Spring!

My grandparents lived in Cave City when I was young and we spent many summers and Christmas breaks up there. Really beautiful country that it's hard to believe is only 1 state away.

Awesome pictures. We are going to there in July. Doing some of the same hikes you posted. Can't wait to see some of those waterfalls. What part of the Buffalo River did you go to? I am deciding between the low water bridge in Ponca or the Pruitt Landing.

I've been interested in going somewhere like this for a while. Is there anywhere similar that is a little closer to Houston?
Very interested in getting a cabin on or close to a river, maybe doing some canoeing and fishing on the river, etc.

Went with a church group of men one year. Rained really hard that night west of us, but not on us. We had camped along the river, but had to get up at 4:00 am because the river was flooding. Had to break camp in the dark, and wait in the canoes tied to trees until it was light enough to safely move down river.
When you are canoeing and you look up in the trees along the shore and see that there are logs and limbs from trees that washed down the river and got stuck up the trees 20'-25' higher than you are, you know that river can seriously flood at times.

Where’s a good play to canoe that would be safe for kids (8-15 years old)?
